Gross behavior on the train

  • Those Hummer-type strollers are pretty nuts. I'm expecting them to start coming with A/C and DVD players.
  • years back. a friend was taking the F train home, late at night
    she lived in jamaica, queens

the train was empty, except for one man
she was standing against the door, reading a book for the entire ride

the guy was standing next to her, against the door also
she didn't think anything of it, she was intent on reading her book

once she got home, her sister asked her: "what is that? that white thing on your jacket?"
    "what white thing?"
"on the back of your jacket. it looks like some sort of liquid"
"what are you talking about? lemme see..."

when she saw the white liquid on the back of her jacket
her memory flashed back to the man who had ridden the train with her a few minutes ago
he'd made some unusual noises and gestures throughout
and then she realized what the liquid was

    and she screamed
  • Ew.

But if there were only one other person on the car with me and that person chose to stand or sit that close to me, I'd be suspicious already.
  • exactly ... not good to be so oblivious on the train late at night! Not the time to be engrossed in a book.
  • so sad. blaming the victim

Oh, sure, you'll eat on the subway-- which essentially means we're smelling your pre-poop-- and yet something as natural and everyday as rubbin' the nubbin' is somehow offensive? Well, mister, I don't beat off in your kitchen, so don't eat on my subway!

Jeebus H. Christ, I'm not blaming her, or in any way saying that it's okay to squirt on unwilling others in public. But come on, how can ANYONE who's lived in the city for more than, say, a week NOT take notice when the only other person on the train car stands close enough to splat your clothing with his boy gravy?

    So you claim.

My breastfeeding rule (for myself + babe) was if i'd feel comfortable eating a banana, then it's ok to breastfeed. for example, subway = fine, state dinner = may want to wander off to a corner.

Ultimately, I breastfed everywhere. i'd prefer funny stares to a screaming, hungry baby any day.

I do not spank it in your kitchen.

I mean, if you'd UNLOCK YOU DOORS now and then, I wouldn't have to do it on your stoop.

    um... are you kidding?
  • if i'd feel comfortable eating a banana, then it's ok to breastfeed
My question: when would you not feel comfortable eating a banana?
  • My question: when would you not feel comfortable eating a banana?
Times/Locations I would not feel comfortable eating a banana:
    Oral board exams
    Audience with the Pope
    Professional photo session
    Roller coaster

i'm sure I could think of more..

In front of a gorilla or banana-eating animal
    During Sex Ed class
  • I'm totally with the anti-eaters on the food thing. I think its gross... no matter if it stinks or not. It could still spill, crumble, drop etc. and its esp gross if I have to hold the same pole as someone and their food covered hand.
the subway shared environment and people should be as respectful of each other as possible and exhibit a little self control.
