    How interesting that Prospect Heights was considered part of Crown Heights, while Flatbush Ave was considered the western border for the entire neighborhood

    "Housing diversity is bringing people back to Crown Heights, which is bounded on the north by Atlantic Avenue, the south by Empire Boulevard, the east by Ralph Avenue and the west by Flatbush Avenue. There are brownstone apartments in the northwestern corner, sometimes called Prospect Heights."

    Don't believe the (NYT) Hype. CH was a dirty and crime infested neighborhood by and large back then from what I saw, more so than now. Prices were cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

    Prospect Heigts has always been a separate neighborhood. Washingon is the border of PH/CH. The borders they mention are those roughly the boundaries of community board 8, which includes PH and CH. I have live here 25 years and found the Tiimes has never been very accurate when describing this part of Brookyn, up to and including (more signifcantly) the AY debate. They always get it wrong.

    All the NY media tend to have problems with Brooklyn geography. In the 80s, it seemed like the TV news would always report violent crimes in Brooklyn as having occurred in Bed Stuy even when they were nowhere near Bed Stuy. :roll:

    Yes, once I was here a while I realized that Bed Stuy was a relatively good community, compared to Bushwick and E. New York, but they were the poster child for the ghetto in the media.

    What the hell are you talking about. Washington Ave was always apart of the hood. I've lived here for 50 + years.

    Stigma's die hard with respect to crime infested neighborhoods. At least you moved there while the neighborhood is on an upward curve.
