MERGED: I wanted to introduce my muzzled pit to the nabe
Hi everyone! I moved here a little over a month ago with my 2 dogs, Cheech, a shepherd mix and Ripley, a black pitbull. I had to get Ripley a basket muzzle shortly after we moved because of the ridiculous amount of bones on the street. I realize that pitbulls have a bad reputation, especially one with a muzzle on. I wanted to reassure everyone here that might see me walking her that she is NOT vicious. She's a sweet dog who loves people and is a huge wuss.
Before I got the muzzle our walks were horrible. She spent the entire time scavenging for food, I couldn't take my eyes off her for a second. She was a stray before I got her so I guess she got used to eating anything she could find.
Anyway, you can't miss us. I'm a woman with long purple/blue hair (depends on my mood), Cheech is mostly shepherd looking, and Ripley is a black pit with a hideous tan basket muzzle. I wanted to post this since I've seen a few dog owners scramble to cross the street when they see us coming. Ripley's a sweetie, she has never bitten anyone and even has a love affair going on with my 3-legged kitty!
P.S. I'm posting this in the Crown Heights forum too since I'm on the border.

Aww, welcome! I'll look for you guys around the neighborhood.
-
Welcome... Look out for my English Bulldog, Fiona, she would love to say hello...
-
a friend has a dog with the exact same issue
-- the muzzle may look scary, but soon enough your neighbors will realize it's for food issues.
not aggression.
welcome to the nabe! O:) -
Thanks guys! I didn't want people to be afraid of her, she's really friendly but doesn't get to meet anyone new. People are afraid of her and keep their dogs away from her. If anyone sees us on one of our walks, say hi!
-
Thanks! I'll keep my eye out for her, Ripley would love to meet Fiona.

I saw a couple of dogs, including one muzzled pit, a few days before the original post. Mostly black pit, but I thought that they were with a guy waiting at/in/near a car... possibly Cheech and Ripley? I didn't really take too much notice of the non-pit (for a couple reasons 1 - I have a pit mix, so I tend to pay more attention to them, 2 - the pit was muzzled, which struck me as unusual)... Oh, I also live on a stretch with quite a few chicken bones...
-
This is our pup, Lucy (with her former pal, Junior) - either my wife or I will be walking her. Feel free to say 'Hi," if you see us.

Here's a link to a pic of my goofballs. We're on Bergen and Franklin but I take them for crazy long walks 20-25 blocks in every direction. I love taking pictures of the buildings around here and the pups like peeing on new stuff.

Hmmm.. coulda been them, but who knows? Quite a few pits with that coloration in the area, but I'll keep a lookout for one with a muzzle and a shepherd companion.
-
I want to see the 3-legged cat! I love special needs animals (and the people who adopt them)
-
i know we were focusing on your pit, but i gotta tell you -- this photo of Cheech made me laugh

btw, i too have a pitbull and a shepherd mix. welcome to the nabe! -
I'm not sure if you're completely new to the area or have lived around Prospect Park previously but be sure you check out the park before 9am if you haven't already. Also check out http://www.fidobrooklyn.org
Welcome! -

Me too! What a face! -
Oh, that picture of Cheech completely embodies his personality. He is the goofiest dog I've ever had. Here's a picture of the 3-legged kitty, Caseopia. She's the sweetest kitty ever.

She is gorgeous!
Her expression in that pic reminds me of my Lucinda. -
I have merged this thread with the same one (both had reply posts) in the CH forum. Enjoy

cheech looks great!
her expression in that photo reminds me of groucho marx
she just needs a cigar O:)
side note: did anyone else hear about Peter Vallone Jr's
introducing breed specific legislation to ban pits from new york? -
great name! hope to see you guys around

I'l fess up that I'm one of the people who crossed when I saw you. I believe it was on classon by park.
I have a very skinny boxer/greyhound mix and an english bully who is sometimes skiddish around other alpha dogs - which is why I crossed.
Next time I'll be sure to say hello! Welcome to the nabe. -
Please do! I remember seeing your dogs (I always remember the dogs not the people). I wanted to shout out, "my dog isn't a killer, I swear!" But I figured that would make me look like a crazy lady.

Oh, and thank you Cheech! I won't tell my Cheech that there's another, I'm sure he thinks he's the only one in the world.

Here's my man. He'll either be walked by me or my boyfriend. we Live at washington and montgomery.

-

-
Thanks! I think they're pretty darn cute but I'm biased.
Howdy, Stranger!
