thinking of buying in CH — Brooklynian

thinking of buying in CH

I looked at a co-op today on Montgomery right near Nostrand. I loved the building and the apt. but I really have no clue what it's like to live there. I realize that it's close to the train (between the President and Sterling stops) and I work very close to the area. Does anyone live near there? It seems that most posts are about the other side of E. Pkwy.

  • Hi there... I am on Montgomery and Rogers... No one seems to be talking about this area. All the post seem to be about the north side of E. Pkwy or about Lefferts Garden. Maybe someone needs to come up with a name for the few blocks in between. I tend to go to the Franklin Ave stop over the President because the 2,3,4 and 5 stop there. Anyway, the area is good, and getting better, what are interested in knowing?

p.s. get your apt. before everyone starts talking about this area... :)
  • I live right in that area & am selling my 1 bedroom apt if you want to take a look. I love the area. Especially where my apt is closer to the museum & gardens

Can you try to private message me and we can talk more about it. Why are you selling, if you don't mind my asking.
  • I'd be happy to speak with you.
Here's the ad for my apt & you can email me at the bottom:

I'm gonna keep it real with ya... that area is not safe, alot of muggers like it there cause alot of the people in that area work and they lay low. so i think you should look elsewhere. i have been a lifelong resident in crown heights.

Hey, mysterious one, care to honor us with a handle, where you live, etc. It might improve your credibility.
  • Well, I have to say that I have some friends who are long time residents of the area--one who spent much of his life near President Street--and they say that that area (still) is really pretty scary, violent, and drug-plagued. The usual speech--of course it's gentrifying, blah blah, but it has a certain stigma, apparently, according to at least some of the long time residents. I also wonder--unless people are putting up their last names and resumes--what does it really matter whether or not somebody puts in a handle? As a matter of fact, I can figure out who a few of the people are on here--and maybe vice versa, but really--why the constant snoot towards "guests?" maybe they have reasons for being incog?
  • I think this area is NOT that scary and dangerous... I've lived in Fort Greene and Boerum Hill and I've seen less "scary" activity here than either of the other areas. Also, Medgar Evers College is putting up a huge new building on Bedford and Crown which will certainly add to the over-all "safety" of the area. For most of the day there are students everywhere...
