Where where where?

corner of Franklin and Dean. Looks nice, they're set up for outdoor dining in warm weather as wel.
-
Truly incredible. I NEVER thought I'd see a sushi restaurant on Franklin Avenue. How times change!
-
well, any reviews yet?
-
Ordered last night. i got some miso soup and a couple of veggie rolls...delish.
Hubby got the bento box special and a special roll. Roll really good, teriyaki chicken a little unexciting but good. bento box came with shumai, which were tasty and all with a 20% discount.
Overall good, definitely add to our regular take out options. Very happy. -
Hey, if they deliver could someone post the phone number, please? I'll try to stop by sometime for a menu though.
It would be great to have another sushi delivery option where I am (Bergen between Classon and Grand), especially now that Gen has a $20 minimum for deliveries. -

The number is 718-398-8828. Hours are 11 AM-11PM Monday through Thursday, 10 AM-11:30 PM Friday & Saturday, and Sunday 12 PM-11 PM. They have lunch specials from 11:30 Am-4 PM daily. I'm sure they'd deliver to you. They have a $10 minimum and the menu says they take credit cards--but not sure if they take cards for deliveries. They are having a 20% off special until 12/31--just mention when ordering. The restaurant itself looks nice--we'll have to eat-in soon.

Thanks, Heidikins! $20 is just way more food than a single person will usually need to order, so I'll definitely be trying 'em out.

Mrs. C and I ordered from them tonight. The sushi is ok, nothing special, kind of similar quality to the original Sushi Tatsu. The 20% off made it a decent deal. If you're going to order from them, I'd advise you stick to the sushi over the kitchen items. Mrs. C got the bento box combo, with pork katsu and shrimp/veg tempura. The katsu was ok, but a little overcooked. The tempura was pretty bad. It tasted like the oil it was fried in wasn't hot enough, so the coating was greasy and heavy and not crispy enough.
Overall, definitely not as good as Taro, Gen or Geido, but they do deliver and are cheap. It could be better, but at least it's a good option to have around, especially for those who are outside of delivery range for the other places. -

hmmmmmm guest poster, and the only review saying it wasn't good.
i think i'll take that post with a grain of salt. -
Posted before on the topic in another thread. Sushi Tatsu, the original, is awful. Straight up fucking awful and is always, always empty. I wouldn't be surprised if they close the Flatbush one and focus on STII in Crown Hghts. I mean, it is so bad they have to lure people in by offering free sake with dinner. I think guest may be right. Be careful with that place. I'm sure it is nice to have sushi on Franklin, but if it isn't fresh and they are undercooking shit, as Carnivore's wife's order shows, you could get pretty sick as I, sadly did, when I ate at ST1 for the first and last time.

For the record, Mrs. C's food wasn't undercooked. The pork katsu was overcooked, and the tempura was just improperly cooked (too low a temp for too long, instead of high temp for a short time). Neither instance was likely to lead to illness, just bad taste. -
i got the vegetable tempura bento box tonight. pretty good. i'll definitely order from them again.
-
We ordered tonight and thought it was pretty good. I'd order again.
-
The location of this place is nothing short of astonishing. I most definitely will patronize them, the sushi at the original place is fine.
-
my boyfriend and i have ordered delivery twice since they opened (i have full on sushi love) and haven't been disappointed yet.
both times they have been fresh and prompt.
i don't think i'd be so adventurous as to order sashimi, but their rolls have been consistently good (spicy yellowtail especially). I haven't had any of their cooked food myself, but the boyfriend was rather partial to their bento box w/ chicken maki (rolled cooked chicken stuffed with spinach, seaweed and other stuff) and beef negimaki.
Yay for inexpensive sushi delivery near by!
-
I love this place!! I order from it all the time... and the delivery is SOOO fast... and its close enough for me to walk too...
Apollonia, yeah its a bit excessive to order $20 worth of food for one person... so next time your feigning for some sushi... call me I'll order with you!! -
I just got my hands on a sushi tatsu II menu and I'm super impressed by its difference from the original sushi tatsu menu. I like the number of cooked sushi/sushi roll appetizer and entrees offered - that's totally different from most sushi restaurants. I'm going to order from them tonight.
yes, I'm one of those people who loves the idea of raw, but hesitates at the actual ordering. I always am relieved when I'm offered an easy out. -
I really must digress! Sushi Tatsu on Flatbush having "good" sushi? Are you nuts? I don't think those people there know good sushi if the fish was resuscitated and bit them in the ass. Geez! Good sushi is rare and not run of the mill. That place is not sushi! It is something else. That's like going to Wal-Mart and buying fucking caviar! Don't get so psyched if something is in the neighborhood, but isn't very good.
Now, Taro Sushi on Dean is a whole other ballgame! They come at least to me for delivery which is between Washington and Classon on St. Johns. Order up some of that shit and literally taste the difference! -
okay, can we stop STOP STOP discussing sushi tatsu on flatbush in this thread? the menu is different for the crown heights restaurant, so let's just STOP trying to compare, despite the whole same name, probs same owners thing. ok? gah.
-
Are they even Japanese at the new place?
-
I have no idea. I mean, it's not like I demand that people who make Cuban sandwiches be Cuban, aight?
-
Different though, sushi, and I mean real sushi is an art. It is a skill that is hard to learn and you have to be an apprentice for a long time if you're not Japanese. The Ecuadorian at Gen practiced and learned from a sushi master for like 7 years before being able to work on his own.
-
okay. you have read kitchen confidential, right? the best french cooks are from puebla? can we please stop with the cultural assumptions? also, no one is saying that sushi tatsu in CH is anywhere near the quality of taro. it's a run of the mill sushi joint. the rest of the usa is full of them - why can't brooklyn? I won't be ordering the sushi chef's tasting menu at sushi tatsu II. I've already had it at taro. a few times now.
personally, I think there are very few restaurants on par with taro or nobu or blue ribbon in terms of japanese cuisine. trying to compare the rest of the pack is like trying to compare outback steakhouse to peter luger. it just ain't fair. -
From what I understand Tatsu is Chinese sushi. A hunk of fish on a bit of rice. It's edible but not exactly real Japanese sushi. I've eaten it before and it makes for an ok cheap meal.

exactly.

Two thumbs up for this place on Franklin and Dean, and if I had more thumbs, I'd use them as well. Fresh and affordable.

i really hate to write a bad review
and i understand "uneven" especially with a new restaurant,
except when it comes to sushi
i knew i was taking a risk from reading this thread
and from those awful sounding "special rolls" on the menu
but i figured if i stuck to the really basic, i'd be all right
(i discovered, in the throes of a sushi jones that i didn't have enough cash on hand to order from gen)
anyway, there were a lot of tastes involved, some decent,
others not too desirable
but one that was missing:
FRESH
that is the first sensation i want to have when eating raw fish
and it simply wasn't there
i am not saying it was "bad"
it just wasn't good
i'll possibly give their prepared foods a try in the future but if all i am looking for is "edible"...
well, sushi is about more to me than just something to eat -
i'm not sure how far past me they go, but taro will deliver at least as far as prospect btwn classon and franklin. As far as I know, they don't have a minimum -- i have certainly ordered less than $20 -- and they are the best ever.
Howdy, Stranger!
