This may sound silly. [BBC America]
So, I'm 10 weeks old here in PH (and NYC, for that matter) and as pleased as I have been on my experiences so far...one thing is bugging the (@&;! out of me. And that's that Cablevision doesn't sell BBC America on their programming!! Not BBC World, but BBCA, which features British television programs.
Superficial and small, I know - but this is like trying to wean a junkie off smack, seeing as how my last cable company DID provide BBCA and I had 2 solid years to become addicted to the programming. I was shocked when I realized I couldn't have it (or that Time Warner wasn't an option). All has been manageable until now...as Q1 2007 kicks off the new seasons of all my tawdry British shows
So...my question is, have any other neighbors felt a pang of emptiness w/o BBCA? When I complained, the reply from Cablevision was, 'if enough of our customers request a channel, it could be added.'
Can your new neighbor request a few friendly emails/phone calls to CV to casually mention it to them? I sure would appreciate the help getting us some Footballer's Wives. Thanks!

direct tv has bbca.
-
Posh Spice, as an Anglophile, I'm with you on BBCA--we haven't gotten cable yet though, so this is valuable information! I personally love the original FW rather than Overtime... just putting it out there
-
I was so upset when I moved here too and immediately called Cablevision to request it. Hopefully if enough of us complain, they'll get it.
-
Oddly, they just added BBC World about a month or two ago. Why not BBC America?
-
This bugs me... I live in NYC and can't get BBCA from my cable company... what crap.
-
Well this is good to hear - sounds like others have taken notice. Look, Footballers Wives is going to start any day now, and either CableVision picks up BBCA or I get my hands on the season 5 DVD!
So hopefully enough members will run across this post. If anyone else with CableVision would like to see BBCA added to the program list, drop them a line when you can. Thanks! -
I don't know if calling or email/snail mail would be given more consideration, but here's a like to their 'suggestion box' if anyone wants to request the channel to Cablevision:

Why don't you offer this channel when every other cable provider I've been with does? Please add BBC America to your channel lineup for Brooklyn.
Thanks. -
I just sent a note too.

Subject: the response from cablevision
so it looks like a boilerplate response but there is hope in that they keep tallies of requests.

Dear Valued Customer:
Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding the availability of carrying “BBC America†on our cable system. I understand and would be happy to help you.
Suggestions from our customers are important in helping us determine which services to add to our current programming lineup. Although we would like to add every service that is developed, due to a limited number of channels available, we cannot always accommodate every request. We do our best, however, to provide those services that have the widest overall appeal to the customers we serve.
While we do make every attempt to accommodate programming requests to satisfy customers' preferences, factors such as technical limitations, contractual obligations with programmers and federal government regulations may limit our ability to honor each request that we receive.
While “BBC America†may not be added at this time, there is a possibility it may be added in the future. I am responsible for sending a tally of all program requests to our programming Department to let them know what customers in your area want added to their line up. I will be sure to include your request for “BBC Americaâ€. As always, we will keep you informed of any new programming offerings as they become available.
Again, thank you for contacting us to express your programming interests. We always appreciate receiving comments and suggestions from our customers. If you have any other questions please email us or contact your local Customer Service department for further assistance. Have a pleasant day.
Thank you for choosing Cablevision.
Sincerely,
Sylvia
