Bodega Kitty Stolen — Brooklynian

Bodega Kitty Stolen

Unbelievable.

We live a couple of doors down from the store on Underhill at Bergen and have grown quite fond of their new kitty Samira. We popped into the store to say hi a couple of days ago, and the guy working said someone STOLE Samira. They stole a CAT. I can't even comprehend this. I can only hope they take very good care of her.[/u]

  • WTF? How do they know she was stolen v. wandered out of the store or something similar?

I hope Samira finds her way back home :-(
  • That is so wrong. [-X
  • I hope it was a mistake. Several years ago I was walking down PPW and I saw an adorable kitten (about 3 months old) right on PPW. I was petting her and she was so damn cute. I thought surely she was going to get hurt out there. She had no collar and I didn't know where she came from. I was about to take her home with the hopes of putting up flyers and finding her owner, or finding her a new home (but sucker that I am for the kitties, I'm sure she would have ended up living with me).

Just as I picked her up to take her, the owners of the store she was in front of (Krupa's Grocery ...I love them....if you know the store, I'm talking about the grey and white cat...Jintie) came out and said she was their kitten. Thankfully she doesn't go out much any more.

Hopefully there's some explanation as to why Samira has gone missing.
  • Oh no!

I hadn't seen Samira lately but had been hesitant to ask about her -- thought maybe she'd gotten hit by a car or something.

At least maybe she's being taken care of, but stealing a cat's messed up.
  • I know my son is heartbroken over this. This is the second kitten to be catnapped from the store. The one right before Samira was taken also. I dont think Samira ran off - she usually hung out right outside the store or on the corner -

Hey Brook - the guy who usually works in the evening has not been there lately (I was told on vaca.) He really loved Samira and I wonder if he knows that she is missing.
  • Here's the only pic I ever got of her:

    Awesomest bodega kitty ever!!

    :(
  • That is so sad and messed-up. She was an adorable kitten and I hope that whatever jerk took her is treating her really well.

I believe his name is Mohammed (sp?). I wonder if he's even coming back? It's been a few weeks.
  • Maybe he ran away with the cat.
  • Maybe he was kidnapped with the cat.
  • Outdoor cats have short lives. The kitty now probably has a good indoor life with premium cat food, warmth and humans to sleep on.

Unless the kitty was stolen for medical testing. :-(
  • Subject: Bodega Cat Nap

Wow, that's horrible. I just talked to Sammy who owns the bodega on Underhill & St. John's and he said someone took off with their new kitten a few weeks ago. Who would do that?

Read this article from the Sun today, if you can bear it. Meanwhile, let me take this opportunity to remind people that this is not the place to let your pets outside unattended...

  • Ooh, I don't think I *can* bear to read it. I'm very much against letting cats go outside, although it must be nearly impossible to keep a bodega kitty indoors at all time, with people coming and going constantly.

I'm just hoping she did end up in a caring (if thieving rat-bastardy) home.
