Equinox gym in the Slope
I heard a rumor that Equinox is opening a gym either in the new residential building on Flatbush Ave and 7th or in the Richard Meier bldg on GrAP.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Equinox is the Meier bldg, although there's the Eastern Athletic immediately next door. I dont' know if there'd be sufficient space in the bldg on Flatbush...
Anyone heard anything like this?

Have not heard, but that would make me happy. But not sure where they could build in any existing space on flatbush.

I do not believe Equinox is not going into the Meier's building as Eastern Athletic's entrance is going to be through the Meier's building once completed.

My only guess on Flatbush would be the new bldg at 7th Ave... there's a WaMu on the ground floor, but maybe the 2nd floor?

I wish, I wish. I'd love to join but their only branch in Brooklyn HEights seems an unrealistic commute from the Slope just to use a gym

I just checked the equinox website. There is no mention of them opening a location in Park Slope.

Besides, I like the Slope Health & Fitness. I tend to support the local merchants, not some big chain. -
No, not on the website, which is why I described it as a rumor.
And, chain or not (although definitely not "big"), they've got some pretty damn good gyms. -
The slope is OK- a bit small- but it would be nice to be able to go to one gym at home and at work (nysc, equinox- whatever has other chains in the city)

All I do not need is another excuse to avoid gyms, like "oh no, if I work out at this cheap gym, I'll be supporting big block businesses and child slavery in Phnom Penh." I might buy fresh spinach from a local farmer instead of frozen spinach at D'agastinos that was shipped from China, but when it comes to gyms, I'll take the cheapest, least crowded, closest location with basic equipment. Mustering up motivation to exercise is tough enough without worrying about supporting every mom and pop yoga and pilates guru living in Park Slope.
New Question: is shopping at Trader Joe's as evil as working out at Synergy?
I’ve picked up a few things -- as much as I could carry back to Brooklyn on the Q/N/R trains -- from Trader Joe’s Union Square store and have been told that their frozen spinach actually does come from China. I have no idea if this is true because I am too damn lazy to walk two feet to my freezer and look at the bag. -
Equinox would be a great addition to the SLope. I think that when it comes to gyms our 'hood is sorely lacking.

No it's not going to be in the Meier building since residents there receive 2 memberships to Eastern Athletic as part of their common charges.
