i bought last 2 mac from macmall but wasn't really satisfied with the service.
do you think apple store is the best bet or do you recommend anywhere else? -
My husband likes TekServe. His old laptop died suddenly a few months ago and he got a good replacement there. Sometimes they have deals that are only in person, so you should go talk to them in the store. I think it's near 14th St.

are you sure its not something you'd rather try and have fixed? i ask this because i fix old macs and am still running 2 of them that are far older than yours. macs can run really well for a really long time.

yeah, they give you a lot of freebies when you buy a mac. and they're pretty funny. I bought my iBook there and have returned for accessories a few times. way better than the apple store, for sure. -

i took it to TEKSERVE when my iBook started having problems and was told that will cost me at least $600 to fix it.
now i can't even turn it on..but maybe it's worth taking it to have them looked at it again.
thanks. -

so the obvious question... when you do turn it on (or try to) does it do anything at all? beep? whir (as in the hard drive spinning)? anything?
now i can't even turn it on..but maybe it's worth taking it to have them looked at it again.
thanks.
might be as simple as a disconnected wire from the power switch to the motherboard or just some shot memory. -
it beeps and whir but it doesn't go any further.
-
can i have your busted one when you get a new one?
-

if you count the number of beeps, it is usually an error code to tell you what component isnt working. its not fool proof, but its always a good start.
the whirring hard drive is a really good sign. means your data is probably still good. -
thanks, joyce.
i am on my way to the TEKSERVE.
thanks again, guys. -

Just kidding. Sorry, should have used "LOL" emoticons. -
Does Tekserve work on anything other than macs? I have an old Compaq Presario laptop that decides to take a nap after a half hour of use. I'm guessing the fan is dead...

heh, admittedly, as a 10 year uws resident (in my pre PH days) i stocked up so much on that stuff that it wasnt even funny. when my now wife moved in with me, i had to quickly throw out enough cyber trash to fill about three garbage cans.
but nowadays, i have a 2br, so time to stock up again!

as a recent UES transplant myself, i think that might be the only thing i miss about the place. hated the place and the people, but man they threw out some decent stuff.

Heh. You iz in luck.
I have an unused, refurbished Jaz 1GB drive, internal SCSI (II?). It was a gift from the call center I worked at in Buffalo when I was in college (I was working Iomega tech support. w00t.). They gave us free drives for xmas, but they didn't give us any disks. Go figure. The gift that gives back to the giver.
Fuckers.
Anyhow, if you want it, email me at alanms00 at google's email service. You can have it, but I'd put a blank Jaz disk in to make sure it's not a clicker:
