does this cat need help?
every once in a while on my walk to joyce's, i notice a cat in a small fenced in area by a trash heap on washington + park place. s/he doesn't seem to have a collar. is there such a thing as an indoor/outdoor cat in these parts or is s/he homeless and wandering? how can i help him/her?
if this is your cat, please let me know so i don't worry.
kinda small if it is an adult with a furry face and what would be a brindle coat (browns, tawny, black, etc.) if it were a dog....

Yes, there is such a thing as an outdoor cat in these parts. i'd never let MY cats outside, but people do. It's great that you want to help it, but it's probably best you just let it be. -
It's legal for cats to be indoor/outdoor in nyc. On the other hand, it's a crime to deprive a pet of adequate shelter and care.
In any event, ask the folks who live in the immediate vicinity if they know who the cat belongs to. If the cat looks thin, mangy, or otherwise unhealthy, or if she seems to live permanently on the street, I'd be inclined to bring her inside. If you do this, put "Found Cat" flyers up in the neighborhood. -
Guess I will ask the neighbors if anyone knows who s/he belongs to. It's just so cold out now. I get worried.
Thanks. -
there is a cat with that coat who is clearly fed and cared for by the people who live next to deacon blue, at grand and prospect. i'm not sure i'd describe him (?) as small, though, so it may not be the same one. (could be a descendant too, i suppose....)
