Carneviento Vs. Los Pollitos
The challenge:
1/2 a rotisserie chicken and a side of tostones from each restaurant.
The verdict:
Carneviento has a larger chicken. The serving was larger and the meat had more spices and flavor. The skin was browned and rich in flavor. Pieces of herbs and spices clung to the corners.
Los Pollitos chicken was smaller and though tasty, just didn't have the full flavor of CV.
The Tostones:
Los Pollitos tostones were superior. Perhaps some tasty chicken fat was added? or maybe butter? Who knows.
Price comparison:
Carneviento 1/2 Chicken at is $6.75, and Plantains at $2.25.
Los Pollitos 1/2 Chicken at $3.90, and Plantains at $2.50.
The winner overall is Carneviento, though Los Pollitos is cheaper you get an infirior poultry product.
Long live the mighty meat wind!

Just doing my civic duty.

I used to think Los Pollitos was good, but then I tried The rotisserie chicken at La Flor Del Paraiso on the corner of 12th st and 3rd ave. It is the best.
-
Not being a chicken-eater, I have to vouch for Los Pollitos II. Their tostones and sopes are to die for.

Good investigative journalism there, Mamacita! I'm not surprised that El Carniviento won, though.

As an aside, I canNOT believe Carnivore hasn't weighed in on this. Carnivore! People are talking about meat here! -
can we make her the official guide writer :P for food joints or something hehe.

Sorry, I just finished day 10 out of 12 consecutive days without a day off, and I've barely had time to check the boards at all.
I'm a huge Carneviento fan, I've only been to Pollitos once, and I haven't had the chicken there (probably foolish given the name). I wasn't too impressed the one time I went, but I don't think I tried the tostones. I'll have to give them another try. -
Edumacate me please. Where is Carneviento? I am a very big Los Pollitos II fan, but if there is a better option, I want to know about it!

The one and only: El Gran Castillo de Jagua!

Make sure you go freshly bathed and dry your hair under the fan. Like a true pilgrim.

Chiming in on the Los Pollitos tostones love. The rest of the food is fine, and I've always had decent service. I have a soft spot for them because I used to order takeout from their location when I lived in Sunset Park. They were a bright spot of deliciousness b/c SP was pretty much a restaurant desert unless you went over to the Chinatown bit (far for me on 49th/4th) or went to George's diner. Well, it was pretty much an everything desert--no bars, coffeeshops, bookstores, decent grocery, etc.--but the rent was cheap as shit. So I was very happy when I saw there was a Los Pollitos in PS.

oh man, I haven't had a Carneviento fried shrimp sandwich in a really long time. must rectify.

There are a bajillion threads on this, but this one is the best (and funniest) of all -- 'splains where the Brooklynian nickname of El Carneviento comes from:

I have a couple of friends from Kansas who visit me a couple of times a year, and they now insist on a trip to El Carneviento every time they come.
Man, somebody's gotta get around to making those meat fan t-shirts. I'd buy one! -

Weird! I have a couple of friend that regularly visit from KS that found El Carneviento on their own one day while I was at work, and then ate there twice a day for the rest of their visit. -
Above the Q/B station at 7th Ave and Flatbush, on the PH side. Green awning. Mighty fan over the door, blowing meaty wind down the street...

Ahh El Carneviento, the Great Uniter. -
Just take the Q to 7th Ave. and follow the smell. It's right at the intersection of Flatbush, Carlton and Park.
Maybe I am dense or need things handed to me on a silver platter, but I still don't know where this El Carneviento place is.
Howdy, Stranger!
