anybody go to BAM?
There's always a big MLK event there.
I think we ought to honor the man by reflecting on what we can do to make the world better,

Subject: A Class Divided
I usually show a video to my students around this time called "A Class Divided". It's about a teacher who does a brown eyes/blue eyes experiment in her third grade classroom to talk about discrimination. The students are amazed at how the kids in the film internalize the bad labels. It was produced a long time ago but is so relevant and has many modern day applications. -
I just saw something on TV where a current college (maybe grad?) student did that same experiment recently... and surprisingly got the same, sad results.

Veggiequeen,
Do you recall the name of the program or where you saw it? I've been trying to find a current adaption of this experiment. PM me if you have more details... Thanks

Is it possible that you mean the college student who repeated kenneth clark's doll test (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Clark_%28doll_test%29), which was the one where black and white children were given black and white dolls and asked various questions about the characteristics of the dolls and which dolls were like the children? I know that was repeated recently and got a lot of press.
maybe the other one was, too? -
Think about how much it would suck if lynching was still somewhat socially acceptable.
Wonder why some companies give their employees Martin Luther King Jr. Day off while others don't.
Nurse the hangover from Sunday night's "let's go out because I don't have to work tomorrow" bar hopping adventure.
Watch very boring TV coverage of Matrin Luther King Jr. memorial events. -

i mean we weren't very productive
but we physically showed up
i don't know why we don't have the day off
perhaps it's because the ceo comes from a financial background
and they expect you to work 24/7
or maybe that they're cheap O:)
