  • Welcome to the neighborhood, Cool the Kid!

That's a LOT of questions. Can I suggest that you take some time to look through the first few pages of this board? I think you may find answers to a lot of your questions, as these are mostly topics that have been covered here many times over.
  • FYI...Eastern Athletic is running a special through January 31st with no initiation fee and 3 months free with a one year-membership for about $1200. That works out to $80 per month over the 15 months. Plus they've got a pool and the place is rarely crowded.

    I'm joining....
  • Subject: cheaper

Owch! That's expensive! Go a bit farther over to the YMCA on 9th Street between 5th and 6th Ave. (yeah, not the Heights) and you can join free in January and it's only $52 a month. Sometimes crowded, but you can't beat the price. I've been a member for 3 or so years, I like it there.
  • There is also a YMCA in Brooklyn Heights and my friend likes it so far--he says they also have a pool
  • I have heard good things about the YMCA in Park Slope, but if that's too far to motivate yourself to walk there, I've been really pleased so far with the Crunch on Flatbush. It's about $65-75 a month, all the classes included (yoga, African dance, spinning). It's rarely over crowded and has a good mix of people so I never feel too young/old, skinny/fat. There's no pool or racket ball or anything fancy like that, but plenty of fitness equipment and weights.
  • Damn, $60+/mo is expensive. I'm just gonna put my bench on my balcony.
