hey, has anyone lost a kitten?

I found this cuteness on the steps of my apt building between the second and third floors (sorry for bugging you, daveb). my cat is currently tolerating the invasion, and may become fixated and snuggle and love this kitten. so if this is yours, let me know ASAP. :)

  • It's not mine ... but if you don't find the owner and you don't want to keep him / her, let me know ... he seems amazingly sweet ... and i think my cat needs a friend.

(Looks like he might have a little infection in his eye, it's a little watery ...)

I"m trying to mediate issues between the kitten and my cat. if I don't find the owner asap I think I'm going to take them both to the vet and figure it all out. it's a girl, btw. and my wrists are shredded. :) I love cats.
  • ok, well I think that's probably for the best as far as my cat is concerned. he's been an "only child" for over 12 years, so i'm not entirely sure he would be very welcoming to a new kid on the block ...

but it's a very good thing that the kitten has found a home. :D
  • Ohhh, what a face!

My household is already at maximum cat density or I'd offer to take her in as well. If you can't find her owner or a home, let me know -- I know a guy in the Lower East Side who runs a no-kill animal rescue place who could find her a good home.
  • Post a note by the mailbox if you haven't already. He didn't come from the street, so someone in the building's going to claim him very soon.

Unless he ran in when someone came in the door...
  • I think it's possible that the cat came in from outside, but it's also very likely that it belongs to someone in your building. Dave is right - I would post a note with picture by the mailbox, and then put the same flyer up and down your block. Good luck!
  • I have to say, I'm completely impervious to the threads about crime, but the lost pet threads on this board chill my blood. I'm now totally paranoid about letting my cat near the windows or door. I'm so glad that this one will have a home either way.
  • Sad (but not THAT sad) cat story.

One time my landlord was installing a new bathtub in my apartment and I warned the plumbers to not let my cat out the front door ... but when I got home one day he was missing - nowhere to be found ... I assumed he had escaped out the front door and I went all over the neighborhood looking for him. I couldn't find him. It was horrible.

Then, exhausted, wondering what to do, I heard this scratchy kind of whining, and it seemed to be coming from the bathroom. Turns out that when the plumbers removed the old tub, my cat (who really wasn't much more than a kitten then) had crawled into the empty space, and the plumbers installed the new tub over him!!! But they hadn't caulked all around it yet (or rather, did a bad caulking job and had left an opening), and there was a little tiny space that allowed a small amount of air in. All I could see was his little paw sticking out from under the tub!!

It was a first-floor apartment with a basement, so we were able to pull him out through the basement ... but he was a total mess when he was finally extracted. I don't think he could have lived much longer like that.

Ummm, so, uh, hmmm. Oh yea! ... The Moral of the Story is: Lock your cat up in a cat box or another room when you replace your bathtub.

I live in the same building. Pretty sure he didn't come off the street, just because of how things are set up.

Poor kitty!!! We had given my landlord a key to fix something in the bathroom a little while ago, and the problem was fixed but we hadn't gotten the key back yet...well, we come home one day to find him and his brother-in-law in our apartment with the door wide open (not okay!!!)...I freaked out that our cat might have escaped, but fortunately he was merely cowering under the couch. An incident which led to the creation of a hilarious fake voice for him, but was nevertheless nerveracking.
  • thanks for your help, everyone. I put notes up on the front door and by the mailboxes but so far haven't heard anything. I don't think it's very likely that she came in from outside, but stranger things have happened, so I'll put some notes on my block and in the local pet store. in the meantime, I need to kitten-proof my apartment and should probably get her rudimentary shots, just in case. I can't believe I haven't heard anything, though. :?
  • I picture, someone going out, spending the night at the boyfriend/girlfriend's place, accidentally letting the cat out and the next morning going straight in to work or something. It'll probably work out.

True that, I renovated my place and found a cat skeleton under the basement flooring.
  • update: 24 hours later I haven't heard from the owner. I'm kinda thinking I won't. If I don't by morning, my signs are coming down, so if you hear someone complaining, they can contact me here (and explain why they're shitty pet owners and I MIGHT give them their kitten back). kitten is eating everything (I went to the pet store today and got kitten food that she's devouring but maybe that's cause it smells like Soda, where it chilled for a bit this evening). so super cute. :)

    That's horrible !!!
  • What is it with the landlords not understanding pets? Our maintenance guy (nice, but more than half retarded) has been futzing around with our building's buzzers for weeks (no success). I came home the other day and my front door was wide open.

I'd been out all day, so I had no idea how long the door was open - meanwhile, our door to the street is just a gate during the summer, so my cat could have waltzed out onto Vanderbilt (which she seems wont to do whenever I leave). Found her 30 seconds later in my livingroom. I almost wonder if she was just too chickenshit to actually leave...

That skeleton story is wild. Ghost cats, anyone?
