Child window guard removal — Brooklynian

Child window guard removal

Has anyone ever had these things removed? They seem to be put in with one-way screws. I called a locksmith who said he'd remove them for $35 a gate. That sounds like a lot. Any suggestions? I need them removed temporarily while I have my windows replaced.

  • Are the screw head totally round or are the octogon (sp?) shape?

    Round
  • I unscrewed the screws from the brick (it was only attached with a few masonry screws to the brick of the building) and removed the child-saftey gate myself. It took less than 10 minutes. Mine was tearing a hole in my screen
  • Can't the people who install the windows handle this? They must deal with it all the time.
  • If you have a drill all you need to do is purchase the bitt for it. I have a drill if you need to borrow one :)
  • oh fuck me i remember that day.
i took out one of those child safty gates with nothing but a pair of needlenose pliers and a hammer. it was like 95 degrees out side and i had to take it out in order to put my airconditioner in. it took about 3 hours and the entire time i was sweating buckets and curseing.

one of the worst experiences of my life.

You would think. I think they're just taking the line of, "you get your air conditioners, drapes, window guards and all that other crap taken care of, we do the windows."

I'm inclined to play chicken with them and see how they deal with them when they show up, but I'm probably not tough enough.
