US soldiers abusing dog in Iraq — Brooklynian

US soldiers abusing dog in Iraq

Animal advocates nationwide are horrified over a video allegedly taken from a CD found in Baghdad's Green Zone. This video, which recently surfaced on the Internet, depicts what appear to be U.S. soldiers taunting and tormenting a seriously injured dog. Several men laugh while pitching rocks at the suffering animal. One participant proclaims, "That's the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life!" as the dog yelps in pain and attempts to flee on two legs.

At the end of the video you can hear one soldier saying "you want to go kill it?" This is about a dog that is in so much pain it can barely walk, a completely helpless animal.

Warning, I was sick to my stomach over this--but it is documented animal abuse and the soldiers involved should be punished for it. We have laws that protect animals from such abuse in our society, and our military should behave with basic respect for the laws of this country. The fact that these soldiers lack basic human dignity and compassion makes them a threat to any helpless animal or person who crosses their path. We should expect our soldiers to be more than demented frat boys who are acting out their aggressions unchecked and who take obvious pleasure in cruelty and suffering.

  • You know, it almost makes me think that the best thing to do with these guys is to send them over to Iraq. If these are the boys we're all so worried about, maybe we should stop worrying.

(i know, i know, un-pc and all that, but just a gut reaction)
  • Why couldn't these American soldiers follow the fine example of Private Jake Bruce Kovco and take their games inside?
  • Let's not confuse the actions of a handful of assholes with ALL the people serving in the war, shall we? Gross generalizations are, well... gross.
  • Right, I think that's why these soldiers should be punished. Because most people in the military (I would HOPE) would find it sickening and would find it unacceptable...and it does not represent the values that they are supposedly trying to instill. Our military should not act like demented sadistic terrorists. They should be punished for cruelty to an animal.

Hang on, isn't that what we're paying them to do?
  • Absolutely disgusting.

QFT. This stuff and a hell of a lot worse happens every day, and I could post internet videos of it all day - but I'll spare you.

That these meatheads appear (as you say) to be U.S. soldiers is unfortunate - or, I suppose, quite fortunate depending on your point of view - but it doesn't say much about anything other than the individuals involved.
