waverly or clinton - between greene and gates?
I'm thinking of offering on a unit on that block, I've only ever lived in south park slope and more recently carroll gardens. I loved prospect park and a few fav cafes (when in south slope) and more recently loved using court st and sometimes smith st.
I don't commute, instead work from home. Also do shifts at the co-op.
Am I going to feel isolated, and wish I had instead picked a smaller place back in the slope or in ft green or in "bococa" (ugh! hate that name). I can just afford a 1.5 bedroom in the slope.. but am seduced by the extra space and the interesting architecture in the area.
I looked at the useful map

and am wondering if perhaps i'm going to regret not being able to stroll in the evening..

Maybe you should spend more time in the area, check it out at night and see if you and the neighborhood are a good match before you "offer."

I like that stretch of the nabe.
Why won't you be able to stroll at night? -
We walk down Gates almost every morning on our way to work. It's a lovely walk, quiet, with children walking to school with their parents. There's a construction site just before Fulton -- don't know much about it but they should be finished soon. I feel very comfortable with that area. Greene is also nice around the little triangle park near Fulton and I think these blocks should be fine. And there's lots of restaurants just down Fulton toward BAM.

thanks for the input.
No reason I wouldn't be ABLE to stroll at night, but if there is nothing but set-back houses, and nobody around, I might not WANT to stroll around.
Where I have lived I like taking a walk because there are restaurants and bars and some people, even to midnight or past midnight on every night except sunday. -
I have lived for years within blocks of where you are looking and have worked at home for the last 3 years. It is quite safe for strolling around. Check out Choice Cafe on Lafayette & Grand, and Tillies on Dekalb and Vanderbilt for hanging out. Ft Greene Park is also a nice nearby walk. There are many work at home folks in the neighborhood.

Subject: Night Strolling in Clinton Hill
I just moved to the neighborhood in June. I live on Grand and my fiance and I used to stroll every night when the weather was nice! Granted, more in the direction of Fort Greene than Bed-Stuy, but we were definitely out and about every night admiring the gorgeous architecture and tree lined streets and checking out all the local bars and restaurants.
There is also Outpost on Fulton between Grand and Classon for a great wi-fi coffee shop. We absolutely love the neighborhood and it's only getting better. You won't be sorry! -
ok that all sounds good to me, "sold" to the brave gentleman with the laptop.
actually i dislike the laptop army, even though I've been known to do it sometimes. But if you can use a laptop, you can probably also read a newspaper without getting glared at..
Howdy, Stranger!
