Drinks before dinner at Saul?

I'm taking my BF to dinner for his b-day at Saul in a week.

We're going on a Tuesday night, and I'd like to take him for a drink somewhere before, or maybe after.

What bars would you suggest for a mellow, cozy, romantic vibe?

Sample is a wine bar that would be a nice cozy place to go.

sample sucks. they call themselves a wine bar, but there are never more than 7 or 8 wines available.

depends on how picky you are about wine. sample also has interesting beers. it has a cosy, romantic feel, which is more than can be said for most of our drinking establishments on smith street! on a tuesday night brooklyn social and the zombie hut might be mellow enough. the zombie hut does have couches in front of a fireplace. good luck!

I might be too late to help, but I'd try Quench on Smith & Sackett. It's a little on the sophisticated side and usually quiet enough to have a conversation.
