  • i guess not :(
  • yeah, guests still allowed
some of the mods and regular users have been wanting to make this a register-only board for a long time -- the Prospect Heights boards operates that way.
There's a thread on Site Admin discussing it
    http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30870

One problem that's developed (outside of trolling potty-mouthed guests, like MeanDººD above) is that many regulars discount legit guest postings, and new people have no way of knowing that . . .

    SO
note to guests and newbies: you'll get more love if you register

  • I don't believe in requiring registration and don't care if anyone does it. An account does not make anyone smarter or more credible in my eyes. Many of the best threads here have been started by nonregistered posters. And required registration tends to make boards more cliquish.

That said, I'm registered, but not all of us registered users take guest as some kind of personal affront.

Are registered users "smarter or more credible?" No. But they are accountable and I believe that makes things a tad more civil.

As far fearing the boards becoming a clique, valid point. But perhaps guests will enjoy what's going on enough to want to formally become a part of this thing, like I did. And it can be all the better for it.

I think it really is all about accountability and taking responsibility for your statements.

Though I believe there are more good, intelligent and responsible guests then not, the bad guests that only come in to curse, shout or throw out random gibberish ruin it for the other guests that are really just trying to be part of the discussion. With that said, I have gotten more than a few laughs from randon dumb-ass guests.

What's a good hometown board with out it's town idiot? :P
  • Hi folks
I'm locking this thread - because we already have a discussion in place on the relative merits of allowing guest posting.
    :D/
I for one would like to hear from you, guests and registered users alike . . .
