Oh my god, if I lived there I would weigh a thousand pounds in about a month. We just went for the first time last weekend and have already been THREE TIMES SINCE. Carneviento junkies, I tell you. The waitresses are starting to recognize us.
Who will be the next to ride El Carneviento?! -
That apt. has had the For Rent sign up fora year or so, really a long, long time. Wonder Why?
-
Alright, seriously... I'm inspired now. I would never set foot in that place unless by personal rec, so tell me: what's good there?
-
Lucas being a junkie to the place myself I love their rotisserie chicken, fried pork chops, yellow rice with red beans, acapuria (sp?) and cuban sandwiches

Pernil (roast pork), Fried pork chops (chuletas), Rotiserie chicken, rice and beans, cuban sandwich (mostly thanks to the pernil), avodcado salad...
I think you mostly can't go wrong. Even the burger is tasty and cheap.
They do breakfast too.
I'm thinking of doing a "Supersize Me" with Castillo. -

Yeah really. Living there might turn me against the place. And that would be a fate worse than death!

Me three!
Though I need to stop reading this thread now. It's lunch time, I'm stuck in Manhattan, and the cravings are going to kill me. -
Please... someone go in there and ask about the apartment for rent.

is this the place right on flatbush by the 7th ave. Q station?
I had fried chicken there once. it was pretty good. but the smell comming out of there is sooo strong. i can't deal. i can imagine the apt above it stinks as well.. but maybe then it would be cheaper... its been for rent forever though.. im very curious about the price. anyone go in and ask yet?
anyone else ever notice how right near the door there is seriously a fan or something pushing out that stinky oily air? it is pretty bad. but the foods good and cheap. and the place is cozy and as informal as it gets. which i like. -

Uh oh, is someone talking smack about El Carneviento? -

More Dominican than Puerto Rican, I recall a waitress saying many years ago...

To say "we noticed" is an understatement. We noticed, we voted, we debated, we ranted, we raved... and then we wrote haiku and long-form poetry about it. And then they got "wind" of our discussion and cleaned the vent!! Here's the discussion topic:
The mighty, meaty wind emanating from El Castillo de Jagua

Actually, you'd be surprised - living above a restaurant, even an odiferous one, isn't too bad. I used to live above a Greek seafood restaurant in Astoria that did a lot of fried food (The Greek Fisherman on 36th ave), and my apartment actually smelled fine.
The real problem was the caterwauling from the nightly fish-fueled cat orgies in the dumpster under my window.
