Really Getting To Know The Neighbors — Brooklynian

Really Getting To Know The Neighbors

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I recently (I believe) got some new neighbors on the block behind me. They seem about my age and I can't really tell anything about them all the way across the backyards and such...except for the fact they apparently have no curtains and like to parade around appearingly naked. I don't know what to do. My room door faces the back window, so it's like step out and bam! This is a plea: if you're on Sterling with no curtains, cover up because I have perverted friends who might try to tape you (sorta kidding)!

Anyone else getting to know their neighbors a little more than they bargained for?

  • Hello?! No pictures?

I haven't exactly had your experience, but when I first moved to NYC I lived in a high-rise in Hell's Kitchen. We were on the 20th floor and our kitchen window overlooked a construction site where one Saturday morning my roommate and I spotted some shifty-looking dude wandering around on the roof, an area that was clearly off limits to the public. After several minutes of wandering around (looking for a good spot, I guess) he hunkered down, dropped trou, and started tuggin'.

This was well before I had a digital camera, or else maybe I'd have ended up in the Daily News.

If you can pick out their building, maybe you could go over and leave a note on the front door. Bet they'd be so embarassed they'd buy curtains pretty damned fast!

You're the second person who asked me that. And if I had a camera or cameraphone, I'd be amusing myself and not trying to help them out.
  • or try puttinge a BIG sign in your window that says "you guys with no curtains: we can see you!!"
  • I have the same naked neighbors. We probably live in the same building.

Yeah, but then Candicissima risks having them looking in HER windows all the time!

I'd still go with the note on their building door. "To the residents of the 2nd-story apartment on the back of this building: I live across the alley from you and really wish you'd buy some curtains. If you don't, naked pictures of you will be all over the Internet very soon." or something to that effect.

No, no, no. Quite wrong. Here's the sign:

    YO, NEKKID PEOPLE: GET CURTAINS!
  • Okay, two things:

One, if you hadn't mentioned Sterling, I'd think it was the people who just moved in next door to us like last month on Park. Their building projects back farther than ours, so when we sit on the fire escape we can see into their living room windows...and they, too, appear to be fans of nudity without curtains.

Two, WE have not, to this point, been too concerned about at least walking around in our underpants without curtains in the kitchen, but now that the hospital is becoming inhabited...that's probably going to have to change. Damnit. This post definitely motivated me though, I have to say!
  • I used on live on 6th Street in Manhattan in an apartment that overlooked the back garden of the Miracle Grill on 1st Ave. Once my roommate's boyfriend was walking around in his boxers and someone yelled up from the restaurant "PUT SOME PANTS ON!" They told me that story when I moved in, and the first thing I did was put up some curtains.
  • Candicissima,

Why don't you just rent out viewing time from your apartment? 25 cents/10 minutes...

    Your very own peep show.

Now that's an idea. Maybe before that, I'll get one of those big foam thumbs or an applause sign to let them know how appreciative I am.
  • I've got one word for you...

    Airhorn!
  • whew! i'm glad that my building/street wasn't mentioned!!! i, too, have recently moved, and we haven't found curtains for the living room just yet... i'm pretty sure that no one has a clear shot of apartment, but i could be wrong... and it's not that i like to parade around in my boxers or less, it just that... well, it's gets hot and sticky in the city, and sometimes you just have to air out a little...

You probably don't prop yourself in plain sight though. Avoid the windows, people: #1 rule of enjoying your nakedness in the comfort of your own home.

Then again, maybe they're freaky exhibitionists. That could be entertaining! Bring on the sex shows so I can finally cave and buy a camera!

they might be into that... you never know
  • I wonder what the subway pervert would do?

It's how I've lived my life from day one. It's just how I roll.

Perhaps a neon sign saying "Hot Stroking Action: Look Here!" or at least a spotlight to make sure we don't miss a thing...

Better yet, a life sized cardboard mockup of the subway pervert, with battery operated kung-fu grip, if you get my meaning. A mad, masturbating scarecrow of sorts.
  • Americans can be so prudish {I am one, too}. But: Why care so much if they're naked in they're own apartment? Are you standing in the window watching? It's just skin, whooptey-do. Try looking away.
  • i have these neighbors...own what must be a six-foot projection t.v. clearly visible to many of us in the adjacent building because they have no curtains!! AND, they are continuously watching such offensive material as reality t.v., baseball, and sometimes even fox news! i am beside myself with anguish when i am forced to look in their windows!!! i am thinking i could never raise kids in this space with such exposure to the unsavory. what should i do? i wish these neighbors would just do something more wholesome. like walk around with no clothes.

    Dude, we apparently should switch.

And I might be slightly prudish...only because they're not the types I feel like seeing naked. I'm not especially offended by it. I just want to let them know that they're pasty scrawny selves aren't as invisible as they might think.
  • hey, sorry -- didn't mean to be so sarcastic. just maybe to demonstrate the subjectivity what is 'offensive.' and, perhaps to vindicate my own habit of walkin around my apartment naked without drawing the curtains in advance of this frequent and mindless activity, while i wouldn't even think of turning up the grateful dead without closing the windows to save passersby from my (often questionable) taste.

(if they are scrawny and pasty, i don't wanna switch!)
  • I think it's every American's right to wake up in the morning, grab a cup of coffee, and not have to see a nutsack.

    I can't believe I'm hearing this from a squirrel! :P
  • or YOU could put up a curtain! There's an idea!
  • wow...my t & a has never caused so much excitement nor controversy. finally!!
  • this is why i live in nyc. although, photos or video would be tacky.
  • are they attractive? because really thats all that matters, there's nothing you can really dowith naked people who refuse to clothe themselves or use curtains. you might as well just look, but that only worksif theyre good looking. i used to have a fat hairy naked old man living on my block in boston. utterly vile!
