Stroller Derby Anyone?

Oh, I used to get that all the time when I was younger. I always wanted to say something like "fuck you, my whole family just died in a plane crash". -

As a card-carrying, straight guy--and Hispanic to boot--I'm a sucker for a pretty girl as the next dude, but I have no love for a woman who publicly states that if she got "fat" she'd kill herself. http://imdb.com/name/nm0000167/bio (scroll down and look under Personal Quotes) In my book, Ms. Hurley went from "hot" to "not" in 60 seconds.
Not too long ago I heard a female standup make a joke about how most women are in thrall to the whims of the fashion industry, which she stated "is run by other women and gay men." [pause for effect] "Two people who won't f*ck us." Of course she got a standing ovation. -

boosedog wrote: After what will undoubtedly be my last daytime visit to the Tea Lounge ever, I feel compelled to post this rant about the Stroller Mafia. Ladies, the place is not a daycare center. The people who actually spend money there and can see over the counter don't want to be tripping over pacifiers and strolllers, anymore than you would want a bunch of hispter teenagers lurking around your kid's daycare center.
Amen.
I'm cool with babies quietly and neatly contained in one area, but babies gone wild spilling out all over the place, their stroller wheels crushing my toes, their sticky little hands grabbing at my coffee cup while their parents are babbling ya-baa-baa at each other is too much of a scene to cope with. -
There are a few points to contend with here:
First of all, children run amok ANYWHERE is generally a bad thing and the parents should be held accountable for their kids' out-of-the-ordinary behavior as well as their own obliviousness and/or entitlement issues.
Secondly, the WiFi bandits that want to convert a cafe into their own private office while milking that $2 coffee for hours on end, are being irresponsible and disrespectful to the cafe by getting a free perk and not spending accordingly.
And finally, a work-from-home freelancer and close friend of mine said it best:
"Because you lucked out and do not have to show up at an office to work, the downside is you have to contend with intersecting with the everyday world around you when you leave your home to work outside. Especially if you decide to do so at an establishment that clearly caters to, in this case, mothers/nannies and their children."
'nuff said. -

I'm not enough of a fool to get drawn into a discussion on feminism vs. hegemonic male privilege or a freeloading-hipsters-vs.-entitled-mommies throwdown, but I do follow the gossip pages, and I can't let this pass.
Hugh Grant was busted with a biological female hooker. It was Eddie Murphy who picked up a trannie. -
the starbucks at the corner of 7th ave and 1st street turns into chuck e cheese on some afternoons. why are there so many badly behaved parents who allow their children to run amok?

I almost posted a rant today.
I was out having coffee with a friend who needed to discuss a personal crisis. We were sitting and a very cute toddler wandered over (we were at the only table left which was near some toys). The mother walked over and with her butt up against our table stood and watched her kid take all the toys off the shelf and then put the toys on the empty chair at our table and play with them. While I was peeved and pissed (I had carved out time for this friend) and I was thinking to myself (hey lady I GOT KIDS, I DIDN'T COME OUT TO WATCH YOURS PLAY!). But then after we left not able to discuss this problem of my friends, I realized we did choose a public space for a conversation and well, what did I expect? If it hadn't been a toddler, it could have been someone yacking loudly on a cell phone. Some parents are so clueless and think that everyone wants to enjoy and partake in the joy of their child. So in the end, I was disappointed not to help out a friend today but then figured today it was a child and a clueless parent and tomorrow it might be a hipster or whatever. Maybe a coffee shop was not the best place for a conversation of this nature??? -

Perhaps a quieter one. Off the top of my head, Cafe Regular on 11th btwn 4th and 5th Ave seems like one. The few times I've been there the place seemd quite mellow. -

Cat got your tongue? Perhaps a polite "Excuse me, we're trying to have a talk" to the person in question would have gotten her attention and alerted them to move. You don't ask, you don't get. Only then do you have the right to rant.

I am constantly amazed by the martyrdom and subsequent intolerance here. -

I didn't think I was ranting actually. We were sitting somewhat near the toys (the only table left) and true I could have told the mother "excuse me, we are having a conversation here" which would have sounded snippy no matter how sweetly I put it. In the end I realized I was in a public space and decided that this is a consequence of choosing to have a discussion, business meeting whatever in a public space: I don't own the space. There are going to be others using the space and maybe not using it how I like it necessarily but hey....
I am constantly amazed by the martyrdom and subsequent intolerance here.
By the way, she did know she was intruding on our conversation because she kept apologizing (although not doing anything about it but then....as I said, her kid wasn't doing anything kids don't do). Nothing here really as black and white as a rant I am afraid. -

why should anyone 'tolerate' rude behavior? -
I agree that Kensingtonmom needs to lighten up and going by her other whiny posts she doesn't disappoint. Leave it to a white liberal to bring up racism while discussing MILF. One has nothing to do with the other. Why don't you leave it to a black person to make that comparison anyway. You should also do a little reading and read up on all the powerful women in America. Have you heard of Condaleezza Rice? How about the woman in the audience of the SOTU who sold her Einstein videos to Disney for millions and who is now making videos w/John Walsh to help kids be safe from abductors just to name two.

friendlypitbull, believe me, women get better w/ age. Operative word being woman. We have mature good looks. Hello Mrs. Robinson
MichaelKeys; Perhaps some hair coloring to make your friend appear more youthful.
Yes, I like make-up, don't need to color my hair but would if I had to, and I like to shave my legs and underarms. ugh on those "natural" women. I have two teenagers and take care of myself. -
MOD NOTE: I know this topic can get heated, but can we please leave off the personal attacks? I've moved one flame by an anonymous guest off-site already. It's ok to disagree with Kmom (I know I do), but let's keep things civil, ok?
-
You know I'm with you on the civility issue, Carnivore.
eggcream, if my friend dispensed with her grey she would indeed look younger but still...the point was that even the most secure women--or men, for that matter--like to feel desired. -

Look, I've done my my best. I didn't post that flame but I almost did, and I was 100% in agreement with the content (assuming this was the [MILF=N-word] = idiocy post). Flames follow trolls, and my opinion is that kensingtonmom is an attention-loving stealth troll. But you know what? I'm glad she's back. She's a fun character.kensingtonmom wrote: But sincerely thanks because you have finally made me realize once and for all that the minute someone tries to turn a thread into a dialogue (Linus) about a larger topic there are more people interested in just reverting it back to personal drivel or attempted personal characterizations. So I will use my computer wasting time to read Slate and the Times and stop popping in here. Believe me after the fury my (yes, judgmental) comment raised in people I am sure this will be quite welcome. So carry-on--I think i saw a homeless person on the corner of Garfield today asking for change that you direct your anger at. Meanwhile I'll see if any of the kindergarteners at 321 can recommend a good contractor for some renovations I need---or maybe they can't since I don't live on a Park Block 2 million brownstone?

To be honest I am the first one to be distracted by traditional eye candy (I still dont know if KM thinks this term is better than MILF) but I can appreciate the extreme hotness that many older women possess - its just harder to spot it walking down 5th AVE or on the subway platform. -
why should anyone 'tolerate' rude behavior?
No one should tolerate rude behavoir. But to sit there and not say a damn thing about it and then rant about it in relative anonymity on a message board.....I mean seriously - textbook passive aggressive.
You only have power over your own behaviorl -

Do you mean Julie Aigner-Clark? The woman whose husband is a big donor to the Republican Party? Do you mean her Baby Einstein videos that have been denounced as not only useless but possibly even detrimental to the development of babies? Please!! Granted, Condi Rice is a powerful woman in a boys club administration--But Julie Aigner-Clark is just out shilling for a buck. -
oh forget it........

STOP IT RIGHT THERE! What is wrong with YOU? Blaming the moms....Get your facts straight: the dads are just as guilty. Out on the streets, those boys juggle cell phone conversations with sacks of Co-op food under their arms while shoving tripplet-packed strollers into LIVE human bodies. I've go scarred toes to prove it. -

Um yesterday a 30-something year old dude in the Tea Lounge started playing HARMONICA along to a Prince album that was playing.
I think that is sooo much worse than mommy-baby sing alongs. hahah.
The best way to bear both (if you are there for the free wireless) is to go for the $3 house wine bar at the back and sit there. The kids can't reach you, and the wine makes harmonica idiots bearable. ; ) -

The President and CEO of Ebay is a woman and has been doing a pretty good job since 98, no? -
"Harmonica Idiots"!? Now I've heard it all. Where does this stuff come from and what are you all spending your time doing? Do any of you realize how insane this all is. Just tell the jerk mom (or dad - in the odd chance) that you don't want their kid(s) playing at your table. Done. And if you are too wimpy to do so, shut up and go some place else. My God!
Howdy, Stranger!
