What do you know about the bar/rest. going in at 560 5th Ave

I think this is a new bar called "Sidecar" which is being opened by Bart who is a bartender at O'Conner's up on 5th by Dean. He and a partner have been planning this along time. He says it won't be open until Jan. though. We'll miss him up in the North Slope.

will there be food as well? Pretty please tell me there will be food--something diner-ish or even just cheeseburgers woudl be a great addition.
-
Yeah, sorry I left that out. That is the whole "sidecar" thing. Bart's partner (who I don't know his name) will run the resturant side of things and Bart will be running the bar side.

Sweet. Go South Slope!

Debya! I know you. My husband's shop is building that bar and they promise to have vegan food options and soymilk for coffee and white russians. As well as the cheeseburgers. I think it's going to be an awesome place.

SO excited for this!

Thanks for alerting me to your post! I'm psyched. I'm gonna be their number 1 vegan customer. -
Oh, I heard that there won't actually be cheeseburgers but more tapas and finger foods. What do I know.

what?!? no burgers?!? that was actually the part i was looking forward to

Anyone heard an update on this place? Walked by yesterday and it looks like they are still in full plywood mode-- what's the ETA? I am excited and impatient for new options in the 'hood (plus that extra half block to Buttermilk is soooo taxing....).

For good burgers in that area, just go to Jack's. Their burgers are the best! -

That must be why they're so jam-packed crowded all the time. Nice try. -

I wasn't counting on burgers where they plan on serving soy milk and vegan food. I'll just drag my lazy ass to Bonnie's. Again. And Again.

I think I overheard somewhere that it might be March by the time it opens.
And surely you jest about the extra steps to the 'Milk. Even I am not that lazy (and trust me, that's saying a lot.)
In any event, places that serve food don't seem to have the same vibe as a bar, so I don't think there will be direct competition. They also tend to close earlier, too. -
They're really going to serve soymilk and vegan food? Count me in!
Are they going to do pitchers, too? I'd love that. -
Bart is a friend of mine, and he and his brother are scheduled to open Sidecar sometime in March. It'll be a bar with food. The food-menu isn't completely settled yet, it sounds like, but they are definitely going to serve both cheeseburgers and some vegetarian options. March will be here in no time!

ha ha yes - totally kidding about the trek of course.
Anyways, sounds like Sidecar will fill a totally different niche - the place where I can get a beer and burger (or vegan white russian) while my laundry's in the dryer! ahh, convenience...

THAT sounds like a plan. Perhaps I'll join you. (Although, as I stated before I'm lazy so, my laundry gets picked up and dropped off.)
