new coffee shop

I can't believe all these coffee places aren't going out of business. (and I am sure Kensingtonmom can't believe that people aren't making coffee at home and flaunt their wealth by walking down the street with a 'branded cup.')

I just noticed this today as well. The illy sign in the window makes me think they may be shooting for something a bit different than what tea lounge and naidre's offer. Maybe something a bit more european and cafe like.

Subject: Jobs at cafes and coffee shops?
Hi! I'm a new Brooklynite. I want to work at a cafe or a coffee shop part time (preferably only on weekends). I already have a day job, but am interested in getting a second gig to broaden my skill set and learn the art of making a good cup of joe. Any suggestions or which cafes I should check out? -

yknow, i think tea lounge would be good actually, as far as learning a skill set goes. i mean, they offer a lot of teas, all the default coffee drinks, as well as wine and beer. i cant see it not making you well-rounded in all beverages. that being said, as much as i love the smallish local coffee houses, SBux usually ends up making the best tasting coffee and coffee drinks at the end of the day. not to say that the overall experience there is the best, but they train their employees really, really well and theyre mostly all extremely friendly. no? -
Question: are y'all sure it's a coffee shop that's opening up there? i'm not suggesting it ISN'T; it's just that when i went by there, 'cept for the illy sign in the window there's no notification that it IS. i know they are working on the place, and i may simply be blind, but i didn't even see any NYC work orders posted. anyone have the scoop?

Yup, it's another coffee shop, there's an article in this week's brooklyn papers: http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/30/5/30_05coffee.html -

Cool, they'll have a garden. Are Illy beans really that good? I've never gotten around to trying them.

awesome! i haven't found a great coffee place at this end of the slope. and yesh, Illy is awesome. Yay, us!

I have to say, that I like Cafe Regular and Red Horse Cafe in this end of the slope. Red Horse has amazing savory biscuits from "baked" which I have developed an addition to.

I wonder if they'll offer free wi-fi...

I used to enjoy Illy beans in my home brewed cappuccino. That is until I switched to Gorilla coffee beans ground in my new burr grinder. There was no comparison afterwards. Illy beans are imported and therefore 'aged'. For good coffee, this is not a good thing. Gorilla roasts daily and marks each package with the roasting date. IMHO, it makes a tremendous difference.
Thanks.
