Dean Street Grill on 4th and Dean, Yum!
So I picked up some food at Dean Street Grill and I've got to say, they're so cheap and good!
I first went there this past summer after seeing them listed in the Time Out Cheap Eats edition. Yeah, I'm broke
I had the Jerk Chicken Pita for $4. It was uuuuuutttterly stuffed with spicy chicken. Over stuffed! The second time I got the Jerk Chicken it had some bones in it, but was still very good. I've also tried the goat curry, tasty, but a bit salty.
Once I went there very late, before closing, and in addition to the small size dinner (Rice/beans, meat of choice, salad and any sauce, feeds 2 people for 6.50) I got some garlic knots (very garlicky) and the guy threw them in for free! They have great customer service
So tonight I tried the ox tail with the cooked cabbage and rice. It was sooo good. The meat was ubber tender and falling apart at the bones. There was some fat sticking to the bones, but I think that's to be expected.
Anyways, thought I'd share.

i also really like this place. it has good mediterranean fixxinz to put on the sandwiches, and homemade bread, too. i got a jerk chicken sammich one time, and there was bonez in it too. Its because the guy takes a whole half of a jerk chicken, throws it on the flat top grill, and pulverizes it with some sort of trowel/knife. Good place to eat, but thats not a good technique. next time i go in , im going to get the ox tails. I think its best to go in earlier in the day, too.

I am so glad you put up a review on this place. We have been looking for a good cheap place like this.
Re the bones thing -- I've had that experience at an Indian place in Park Slope and at a Jamaican restaurant in Spanish Harlem (back in the day). It's off-putting. I guess once you expect it, it isn't so bad?? -
"how can i help you brother?!"
i've been going there since they opened up shop
really good food for not expensive prices
and the guys are very friendly and work hard
the garlic knots are great.
everytime i have them, i ask them to make the next batch even more garlicky. if that's possible. it stings to eat one
they make the best chicken shawarma.
the oxtail could use a little less salt and bones
they'll also make you a plate of whatever you're in the mood for
their chicken soup is very tasty and full of veggies
once the atlantic mall goes in, they're gonna have business coming out the ears
Howdy, Stranger!
