The riverboat casinos are a huge economic engine in the Gulf region providing not only entertainment but a substantial amount of tourism jobs which is why it is devastating that the casinos have all been wiped out.

Understood.
However, I think that editorial gaffe was in juxtaposing a longer term (albeit legitimate) economic issue with a near-term human crisis of massive scale.

Also the bring in a TON of tax revenue for the state -
I can't believe that businesses as profitable as casinos wouldn't have insurance for exactly this kind of thing.

Casinos are profitable and disposable. The buildings have been paid for long ago. Now they're trashed, but it would not be too difficult for many of them to come back to life... That is if the city itself comes back to life... -

Many Insurance companies wont cover damages (or at least full dmages) in the event of an "act of god".
