More annoying:
The uncontrollable PS youth/their lazy parents or people who don't pick up the shit their dog dumped on the sidewalk?
I gotta go with the scumbag disgusting animal owners. Yet there's about 25,000 more posts on this board related to the rotten little kiddies. Doesn't make sense if you think about it. And pretty much everyone has to avoid animal feces on a daily basis. I doubt stupid parents and their dumb kids are ruining a meal a day for most people.

Indeed: the meals that exit the dumb ass ends of pets are more likely to ruin the day of kids and their parents. -
Kids. Pets. What's the difference? Put leashes and muzzles on both of them.

i like to fling my dog's shit at the stroller derbyists

The dog crap appears to be worse on some blocks than others. What's the deal with 15th St between 6th & 7th?

I don't know, it's been really bad lately. 14th Street between 6th and 7th is actually worse. It drives me crazy because I have dogs and always, always clean up after them, and then I come out of my house to find a huge pile of dog shit right out front. -
Park Slope must be awful. you guys seem to hate EVERYTHING.

bklyngirl wrote: Park Slope must be awful. you guys seem to hate EVERYTHING.
And you enjoy stepping in dog shit? -
No - there is dog shit everywhere. I just don't like whining about this and everything else. Then again, I am the bitch who walks around with baggies, politely offering them to people who are about to walk away from their dog ends. and i don't even own a dog.
do something besides whine. -

The dog shit is most definately the worst anywhere around the armory

I live there, so I've been known to let people know they have forgotten their shit. "This is definately your shit...it looks just like you"

Yet what I notice is - the amount of loose poop is inversely related to the numbr of strollers and new condos

According to this board, every wrong in the world is caused by the number of strollers, new condos, loud hipsters, and the "new people". -

While I applaud embarrassing people into picking up their pooch's excrement, don't you ask yourself "Why do I have to be the poop police and instead, why don't these irresponsible, inconsiderate dog owners not do the right thing?"
It all comes down to failure to acknowledge your responsibilty towards your fellow neighbors. Period. THIS is what's at the root of the problem with permissive parents, obnoxious hipsters, drunken trouble makers, disrespectful dog owners etc etc etc.bklyngirl wrote: Park Slope must be awful. you guys seem to hate EVERYTHING.
I'm always baffled as to why some people don't understand that wanting to make your hometurf a better place is a sign of LOVING IT and not the contrary. That caring enough to want to see it improve is a gesture of commitment. After ten years--and counting--I STILL love Park Slope very much which is why I want to see it become a better place. -
"Why do I have to be the poop police and instead, why don't these irresponsible, inconsiderate dog owners not do the right thing?"
Because they can. I would rather be proactive than be a victim.I'm always baffled as to why some people don't understand that wanting to make your hometurf a better place is a sign of LOVING IT and not the contrary.
I haven't heard ANYONE loving the neighborhood. All I see here is people complaining about how things are wrong, and how these wrong things ruin their entitled lives.
Take a look at the boerum hill group on yahoo. people are actively involved, solution oriented, NEIGHBORLY. -

So you don't believe in getting the root of the problem and eliminating it? Because you know that when YOU are NOT around to chastise them for leaving their dog's pop behind they do THE SAME THING all over again. And guess, what? You ARE the victim of of a revolving door-type situation. They don't respect you and your neighbors enough to do the right thing when no one is around. They do it when you are there because they don't want to get hassled by you. Pure and simple. And as long as that is the case you will still be the victim of their dog's--and these people's--poop, no matter how proactive you think you are.bklyngirl wrote: [quote=MichaelKeys]I'm always baffled as to why some people don't understand that wanting to make your hometurf a better place is a sign of LOVING IT and not the contrary.

It would be absurd for me to even suggest that I speak for anyone but myself on this board. So, I won't. But didn't you read my post where I literally say it and explain to you that complaint=hate is not an automatic assumption. Does a responsible parent hate their child because they discipline them or correct them? Of course not. Same basic principle.bklyngirl wrote: All I see here is people complaining about how things are wrong, and how these wrong things ruin their entitled lives.
:-({|= Jeez.
Personally, I don't feel any sense of entitlement and don't think anyone owes me anything but courtesy and respect.
So when you stumble out of a bar drunk off your ass and wake me up with your loudmouth shenanigans at 3 AM on a weeknight; leave your dog's shit all over my sidewalk; let your kid unneccesarily bother me or disrupt my space and ask that I just "deal with it"; you're not showing me ANY courtesy OR respect. Have we gotten so far from reason that to expect basic common courtesy can be defined as having a sense of entitlement? Please! -
bklyngirl wrote: Park Slope must be awful. you guys seem to hate EVERYTHING.
Well, this is a message board and part of the integral idea of it is to discuss the neighbourhood.
And people tend to post when theyre annoyed about something.
There would not be much ground for discussion if someone posted :
"Wow, 7th street was clean today, I couldnt see any dog poop, afterwards I went to my favourite cofee house and it was full of considerate and kind people, to top of my day I went to {insert bar here} and had a great conversation with all the interesting people there" -

Hahaha, very true. My block is mostly poop-free today. I went to the 9th Street post office and the line wasn't so bad, and they found my package. Then I went to Naidres and got a tasty veggie burger. There was a baby in there but it was asleep. Someone talked on a cell phone, but very quietly. Two little girls came in with their mother but they did not smash my lunch, kick me, or run around. Then I went to the pet shop and they had the cat food I needed in stock. What a great day in the neighborhood.

That better, bklyngirl? -
my block is mostly dog poop free (7th ave @ carroll). however, the strollers are a menace. were i to 'do something about it' (pace brklyngirl), i would propose putting a stroller lane in the middle of 7th ave.

Nice twist, smartypants. Got a 2-drink minimum to go with the jokes?
But no, you should ask bklyngirl 'cause she seems to think her method of dealing with the situation is the right one.
I, on the other hand, would find a way to talk to my disrespectful neighbors, report them to some agency or something. (Maybe she has.) All I know is we sure got rid of that problem on our block. And passing baggies to these people is not only a band-aid but YOU are spending your own money to indirectly clean after them, too. [-X -

there a new condo on my block, but the poop remains the same.
what gives?
one day one of the mod's heads is going to pop off, and all these "annoying" threads are going to merge as one long mega thread.
The title could be The BitchRemix .
Anyone got something better? That doesn't exactly trip off the tongue.
well, wouldn't want to be smug
I haven't heard ANYONE loving the neighborhood.
ha. but plenty of posters here love the place - don't jump to so many conclusions based on the short time you've been on this board.
It's true some people get bored of the positive posts. The rest of us get bored with negative posts. Just skip the stuff that doesn't interest you . . .
Joyce Bakery drove some of our PH neighbors to distraction, drawing hyperbolic invective against their cupcake bliss. "Politics are more important, why are there 200 posts about what you put in your mouth" posts just seem to add to the problem . . . -
But no, you should ask bklyngirl 'cause she seems to think her method of dealing with the situation is the right one.
No, I don't think MY method is the right one - I believe there are any number of methods which could work. And some won't, because people are people, and some people are just going to be do what they're gonna do. But yes, I ALWAYS will go up to someone politely and say "excuse me, but you forgot to pick up after your dog." Fortunately, these people are not my neighbors.
I, on the other hand, would find a way to talk to my disrespectful neighbors, report them to some agency or something. (Maybe she has.)
I don't advocate going to "the authorities". The sanitation dept., who's jurisdiction this falls under, tends to only care if they can ticket someone, which means catching the offender in the act. I've asked. -

MKeys, I think handing over a bag is a nice conversation starter, as well as being super practical.
I'm only half joking.
(And I'm happy to hand over my spare plastic bags.)
I think it's one of the few effective ways to get people to do things differently - you are conveying the message that someone actually cares about dog shit (not) being on the street. And if you're not being a dick about it, that message might get through. -

in all seriousness, there are plenty of people on these boards who love the slope. you have only been on here for what, less than a month? please try to curtail the mean generalizations until you've been here for awhile. it's somewhat insulting and rather distracting.

I tend to use the (face saving) "You must be short a bag, here's one."
So far I'm 2 for 3 against. One of exchanges was put on DH:
