special rescue kittens

Rumi & Shabazz were rescued from a basement in Fort Greene. They're 12 weeks old, playful, intelligent, with blue eyes and strikingly beautiful coats. I think they're at least part Siamese. Looove to cuddle.

Recently the kittens tested positive for FeLV, a serious and potentially life-threatening virus. They will be tested again in a few weeks to see whether they've overcome it. However even if their condition remains positive, they can lead happy and healthy lives for many years. But it means that they should not be adopted into a home with cats who have tested negative.

Prefer to adopt them out as a pair or, if separately, to homes with at least one cat. For more information or to meet the kittens, call 917-447-4680.

  • I guess no one likes "AIDS cats", although no one seemed to care about testing until lately.
  • I'd take them in a heartbeat -- they're SO cute!! -- if I didn't already have cats.
  • They are gorgeous! I would take them too, but I am at maximum kitty capacity and my cats are FelV negative
  • Let me know after you test them again they are so cute and i am looking into adopting a cat. I do already have one thought that i need to test here soon too..
  • Update: Rumi & Shabazz have been adopted by a big-hearted couple in New Jersey (even though they re-tested positive)!

Thanks, everybody, for your support and good wishes!
  • Yay! That makes me smile :-)
  • Yay! MAN, I love it when I can take the sticky off one of these things. Even better for these two. Laura B, thank you for all you do for these critters!
