Hevesi to Resign
the bet between Pitu and myself is off -- Hevesi resigns in December!

State Comptroller Alan Hevesi will resign to avoid an indictment for using state employees to drive for his wife, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the case.
"He was definitely reaching an agreement with (Albany County District Attorney David) Soares' office to step down to avoid being indicted," said the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case is in the hands of a grand jury.
"The Hevesi case is a done deal," said another source, a leading Democrat. The person said Hevesi, a Queens Democrat, is expected to resign Friday as part of an agreement to plead to a minor felony charge at most. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal isn't final.
The deal was reported in Thursday's editions of the New York Post, the Times Union of Albany and the Daily News of New York.

hmm. I missed this over the holidays....
I still think it a waste of a decent civil servant. -
i agree. but you gotta draw the line somewhere
besides he'll make much more money in the private sector -
I don't want him to make money in the private sector. I want him to work for NY and do a good job for us. He seemed to be happy with that arrangement (and see the higher value) for the past decade...

Is there a more corrupt, good-for-nothing embodiment of the horse-trading philosophy of NY's government than Sheldon Silver? [-( This quote from today's NYT article on Hevesi's replacement sums up all that is wrong with Silver, and why we should form a lynch mob and storm City Hall to get after him.
Mr. Silver has made it abundantly clear that he wants a member of the Assembly to get the job, while Mr. Spitzer has said that he would like to see it go to an independent candidate with financial experience.
Yeah, God forbid we have an independent candidate with financial experience instead of a crony political friend of Albany. What an a-hole. -

Yes- this asshole. -
 They're neck & neck for dubious honor of 2nd biggest asshole in the state. 2nd only of course to the assholes of the people of NY, which have been getting fucked over by them both for years now....
(apologies for the vulgarity) -
LOCK YOU PENSIONS!! I know no one gives a rat's ass about this issue, but I wish more people did. This week's shenanigans in Albany were a new low for this dysfunctional group of cronies, and we should all be outraged. Kudos to Assemblyman Gregory Ball for standing up and making noise about it. Seeing the despicable way a govt can appoint an insider with absolutely no financial experience to manage the state's finances makes me very, very happy that my retirement is securely in private accounts that I can manage myself. The myth of the "safe" public pension should now be forever dispelled.

this pisses me off so much. I hate these fuckers. all of them.
-
Beautiful. Now THAT'S how you grandstand!!
Seriously, I'm glad to see some other people have noticed and are pissed off about this issue too. -
sheldon silver is a putz! you can see it in his face
Ball's got big Ballz!!!! -
I miss Hevesi already.
I was hoping for Martha Stark, currently the NYC Finance Commissioner, to get it.
Albany is hopelessly disfunctional, and I can't wait to see what Spitzer does. -
Amazingly, this is even worse than I had feared. Did anyone see this NY Post article? Click on the link to the quiz, too. I mean, this is really scary. The state comptroller doesn't know what an inverted yield curve is? This is like Finance 101--I don't expect your avg Joe to know, but this has been one of THE major financial stories of the past two years, and has enormous ramifications for the economy. And he doesn't even know the term? It would be like nominating someone to head up the Health Dept who had never heard of AIDS. Frankly, all of the state's pols should know the term, and would if they paid even a modicum of attention to the economy. Other things DiNapoli doesn't know: approx how many retirees in the state pension fund; the fund's investment return last year; the fund's largest holding; and the % of the fund's investment in stocks.
Now come on, even if you wanted to elect an insider, surely another crony with at least rudimentary financial knowledge was available, no? Did they purposely pick the biggest dunce around? This kind of corruption is right out of something you'd see in struggling countries like Turkmenistan or Bangladesh. Pretty disturbing that it's also prevalent here in our own backyard. -
i believe spitzer when he decries di napoli as being incompetent
but...
when you get to that level of business, you rely more on personal communication skills and connections.
--and delegate minutiae
his mistake was in being stupid enough to even look at the questions
he should have flat-out said "email it to me!"
he's not too bright O:)
Howdy, Stranger!
