places to exercise in Carroll Gardens

Hi. Can anyone give me some advice about where to exercise in Carroll Gardens? I can't afford those fancy multi-site gyms-- looking for something a little more affordable.

Thanks

  • I'm a member at Body Elite on Court & Union, good no-frills gym.
  • check out www.everydayathletestudio.com we're located on 136 union - come by if you're in the neighborhood, however be warned we're not just a place to work out - more of a strength training studio - but some of our classes you might be interested in.

Best of luck on your search.
  • i also use Body Elite.. I pay $67 a month for a no contract/no commitment membership.

You can also use City Rec Centers. I think they charge $25 or $50 for a year! Multiple locations.. red hook location and chelsea are two locations i know of that my friend uses.
  • the dodge YMCA.
it's fan-freakin-tastic and the best deal around.
they will often give discounts - so call and ask if you qualify for one.
i have one and pay $40 a month.
  • I go to Elite Fitness Studio on Union between Columbia and Van Brunt. The reason I chose to go there is at the time (years ago) Body Elite was dirty (in my opinion) and hadn't been renovated yet. It was the only other gym in walking distance from my apartment (I won't use gym showers). Elite Fitness is the cleanest gym I've ever been a member of - it is spotless. Also, you will never have to wait for a machine there as I've never seen it crowded.

It is NOT a good gym for you, though, if you are looking for a large variety of classes. I also have taken personal training sessions and I cannot recommend the personal trainers. Also, if you are looking to network, socialize and/or pick up members of the opposite sex, this is not the place. People seem to work out and go home.

    Good luck!
