Tea lounge monitering web activity?

I found this post interesting. I don't frequent the Tea Lounge often but I sometimes use the free Wifi in other coffee shops. Do the police have a right to ask Employees to monitor the online activity of their patrons?

    If it's an open wireless network, that's probably more likely to be someone in one of the apartments nearby than someone in Tea Lounge.

    But the whole post sounds fishy.
