Party space?
I want to rent a space for a party for about 30 teenagers. I would supply food, decorations, etc., just need a place to have the party, and it doesn't need to be fancy. I called Camp Friendship but they don't rent their space for private parties. I can't think of anything else. Any ideas? It would need to be in Park Slope or close by. I really don't want to have this in my house . . . .

Rose there is a place on 10th Ave and like 14 or 13 its a Knights of Columbus type place. We had a couple functions there and it is really a nice, clean place, plus they have their own kitchen. There is one on PPW and like 16th Street

Lots of churches/synagoges rent party rooms and have kitchens.
The church on 7th Ave next to Key Food (Carroll St?) has big space that I've been to a couple things at . . . the kitchen is actually very nice.
Of course, it's in no way cool. But then neither is the Camp Friendship room...
on the Gowanus there's a gorgeous art space with a rental room - is that too far away? -

This is what I need. PPW and 16th Street would be perfect, but the other location would be okay too. Do you have a phone number for them? Or a name? I don't even need a kitchen, I was just going to feed them pizza. -

I think it's too far -- the kids are 13 and 14 and mostly from the neighborhood, so it needs to be an easy/safe walk or bus ride from Park Slope. I think a pretty space would be wasted on them, anyway. What they need is a place where they can't do much damage. They're like overgrown toddlers.

Rose, I found this, but it doesn't have the #. Perhaps you can find them with the following:
Holy Name
Knights Of Columbus
1511 10th Ave -

The other place I was thinking about was right on PPW and I think 17th or 16th Street. Its either a KoC or VFW something like that.
PS I just realized 30 teenagers?!! You will be in my prayers my dear

Thank you! It does seem crazy. It can only help to keep this event out of my house.

You can always go to the Tea Lounge ;-)

there's also a place across the street from me on washington between sterling and st. johns (near the bklyn museum). it's where a lot of neighborhood birthday parties take place - even for little kids.
also, soda (vandy and st. marks) rents out their lounge space for private parties. there's space for dancing, etc.
not sure, though, if that's too far, considering ppw is ideal. -
I would also try the St. Francis Xavier Lyceum on President St. between 6th and Seventh Ave.

belleview.
30 teenagers? are you nuts? we should take you out for after-party drinks.
(and no, i don't hate teenagers either, fyi, but they are all lanky and awkward and hormonal and unsure of themselves, et alia. i don't envy you this party) -
Hey Stacey, I went for a walk along PPW but the only thing I saw was an American Legion on the corner of 18th Street, right by the Prospect Expressway. Do you think that's the place you're thinking of?
I can't find a phone number for that KoC on 10th Ave. It's not in the phone book, I can't find it on the internet. Very frustrating.
I called St. Francis Lyceum and they said they don't rent out their space.
I just know these kids are going to end up in my place. Right now I wish I had a big house in the suburbs with a finished basement! -
Yes that is the place the American Legion -
If you go to the KofC website for anywhere in Brooklyn they may be able to give you the number to the on on 10th Ave.
For some reason I keep thinking I saw a party rental space (like a storefront type) on 5th Ave and 20th Street or 6th Ave and 20th Street (in that general area).
Also did Snooky's official close? They used to have a nice upstairs room for parties. -
Old First Reformed Church
click on "one time rentals" - the lower hall is a big plain party or meeting room

or how about the side room at Two Boots? If you were going to give them pizza anyway . . . . -
Oh cool, thank you, I will try that. The thing with Two Boots is, I don't think they will want to sit still the whole time. I wasn't kidding when I said they're like toddlers. With adolescent hormones.
I actually love this age -- they can be so earnest and sweet. But they can get really stupid when they're in a group. -

eeep! I apologize for making you waste your time with regards to the Lyceum. They had this big memorial service/party thing when my mom died last year and it wasn't church related at all. I guess you have to actually die to score a decent party at the SFX Lyceum.
