you're serious? how exactly is this done? fried chicken on a waffle? with gravy instead of syrup?

i don't eat meat anyway but am finding this one difficult to imagine.

fried chicken and a waffle. choices of toppings: hot sauce, maple syrup and/or butter. awesome.
  • Has anyone had the chicken and waffles at Bob Law's? I've noticed it on the menu, but never tried it.
  • In no particular order, PH only:
Sorrel - real bargain for that kind of quality
India Place - the mixed Tandori grill is a winner
Crown Fried Chicken - beats KFC any day
  • Oshima on 7th Ave delivers to PH & is very good (sushi).

Amin (indian, also on 7th ave) is cheaper & better than Joy & delivers to PH. I've given Joy a few chances (I want to support businesses in the nabe) & I've been disappointed. Though i'm only judging non-meat options.
  • Subject: Nana = GOOD

This month Nana's waiters are EXCELLENT. They're quick, polite, informative, and serve tasty food.
  • I'll have to retract my Beast comment above. Excellent last time I went. They've improved greatly it seems.

Went to brunch at Le Gamin today. Nothing like a Cafe Au Lait and a crepe. Just the best place around this hood.
  • I haven't been to Heights Coffee since they remodeled --- made it better/worse?
  • mmmm

had the best brunch on sunday,
applewood on i think 12th street between 7th and 8th ave in park slope.
outragous waffles and brobably the best bacon i have ever had.

top marks also go to 2nd street cafe on 7th ave and dizzys on 9th street and 8th ave.

park slope has some of the best brunch around its just too bad that 9 times out of 10 you are going to be sitting next to a screaming toddler thats throwing cherios on the floor and parents who say to them " aww arent you cute your disturbing everyone around you"
  • The food at Beast is good, but the service is beyond terrible. Sometimes it's like an episode of Quatum Leap, like they just entered the body of a Brooklyn waitress and the words "Can I get some water?" sound completely weird and out of context.
  • Worst mexican ever: "New Fresco Tortillas" on Flatbush. Blech. One of those places whose menu you find stuffed under your door. Off-the-boat Non-Mexicans make your food. Needless to say, not authentic, and also not even edible.
    It also smelled like feet.

Totally agree. When I first moved to the area, I tried the place within my first month. Horrible. It was so bad that I suppressed the memory and decided to try it for a first time AGAIN, about a year ago... The memory is horrible, but I need to hold on to it so that I don't make the mistake again. Learn from my misfortune, people... please.

the place feels like your eating in someone's living room. its nice and clean and the service was friendly but it felt more like a coffee shop then a restaurant. my GF had the french toast and i had the waffles both were uninspired, the price was cheap and the place was relaxing but i wouldn't go back there anytime soon.
I hear you. I had the chicken and waffles and, I must say, after having lived in harlem for years, I was NOT impressed with the offering at DB. but, I will give them another shot at some point. I actually really liked the relaxed atmosphere, though.

Their brunch is really unacceptably bad. I had "steak and eggs" which I could not eat.

The dinner is really pretty good though, esp. considering the prices.
  • Just tried El Pollo on 5th in the Slope. As far as Peruvian Rotisserie goes, it wasn't that great. Pio Pio in Queens (and the city) is 10 times better
  • I went to Applewood for the first time today. The service is pretty pro but the food really sucked. Maybe I hit it on a bad day. The eggs were overcooked, the bacon was re-heated and chewy and the veal hash seemed to be very lean veal that was shredded and doused with vinegar. Dry as cardboard as was the biscuit. The homefries were way over cooked. I'm talking consistency like water. Pretty much everything had that "salted to add flavor" taste. The smoked salmon was good though.

I've been there once for dinner and it was excellent, but I can't vouch for their brunch. Keep in mind that most places have different cooks for the lunch/brunch shift. If you've read Kitchen Confidential you'll know that the brunch shift is notorious for being staffed by the "B team".
  • The reason I went is because it had a highly rated brunch. And I find it ironic that such a highly rated place such as Applewood serves such schlock, even for brunch, while a "mediocre" eatery such as Park Cafe will at least give you crispy bacon right off the grill.
  • Contrary to the above opinion......Deacon Blue Rocks! Been there a few times with my 2 girlfriends[not at the same time of course] & my parents. The food & service is always of a very high standard & the place is so clean. I've frequently seen other dinners compliment the food & the staff. Brunch on sundays is FABULOUSLY DELICIOUS. If you are looking for a change of venue for food then look no further than the corner of Grand & Prospect.
  • I have to say, we used to order from Mango often, and, yes, the food is good. However, we stopped ordering when we found a roach in our food.

I debated about whether or not to post this comment. I understand that sh*t happens, and I don't want to tarnish the reputation of a local establishment (popular one at that), but in the end, I am not down with a roach in my food, and had I known this had happened to someone else, I would never have eaten there.
