9th Street CVS pharmacy--what happened?
Comments

It will NEVER be as bad as the Rite Aid on 7th Avenue @ 5th Street.
Head to Neergaard's. -
I never thought of the service at CVS/9th street as anything but lousy. Even Eckert's better, Neergards best.
-
well, at least CVS has better policies about women's health issues (plan b dispensing, etc), unlike rite aid.
i still love health aid; they rock. -
CVS is wretched. if you have any problems with them, talk to Joe (the store mgr NOT the RX mgr, The RX mgr is a jerk).
better yet go to Ansonia! My RXs are actually a few dollars CHEAPER at Ansonia! -
Withyour politics, KM, why are you going to CVS? There are tons of mom-and-pop pharmacies, including Ansonia. Plus, there are bunch of others in Kensington and WT.

uhm what politics do I have about a pharmacy? I loved the Mom and Pop one on 7th Avenue across from Methodist but they closed so I started going to CVS since I used to live around the corner from it and I think the surfer dude pharmacist did a good job.
Anyway, are you the guest who keeps popping up on various threads with little snide Kensingtonmom comments? -
Wow, you really keep track of your publicity...

And no, I am not THE guest, but just one of them. -
I have been going to Neergaard on 5th Ave because I was so put off by CVS. Aside from being open 24 hours, I don't like it there very much. They are very slow and the staff behind the pharmacy counter is rude and apathetic. Sundays are the worst. It's a group of teenage girls that shout out what your prescription is and they never have your order ready. I called in at 11am and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I didn't get to the pharmacy until 2pm and they tried to tell me I hadn't phoned in and they don't have what I need. I asked to speak with the pharmacist who admitted to me that they just don't have it in stock. They straight up lied! I had to wait an additional 20 minutes while a deliveryman drove it over from the other location. They had all my information. They could've called and I would've gone to the other location myself and picked it up. Great customer service. Instead of spending 3 minutes on the phone, they just deny that you ever called.
Anyone know of a better place? -
I liked Ansonia when I lived near them but when I moved I started going to Palma on 7th Ave and Garfield. Frank and Peter are wonderful, very helpful and friendly. I've been using them for about 3 years and they're great.

I have lived in The Slope for 25 years. We use Slope Drugs on 5th Ave and 7th Street. Disadvantages..They are closed on Sunday and are not open 24/7 the other days either. BUT... The service is incredible.. Have you ever waited less than 45 minutes for a prescription at Neergards. The druggist is knowledgeable and will answer questions. This may not be the place the buy your Shampoo but it is the best place in the neighborhood if you are lookinf a neighborhood druggist.

This is not related to prescriptions, but where can I get regular size cotton balls?? I got my last bag at the 9th St. CVS maybe a few months ago. Now all I find is triple size ones.

The CVS pharmacy has seemed really slow and disorganized for at least the last six months. The staff seems overwhelmed that they have to answer the phone, and talk to customers, and get prescriptions filled. (I mean seriously, why should there be an hour wait for birth control pills when there's maybe two other people besides me picking up--the packages are ready to go, all you have to do is run the insurance info.)
I will say that while running errands over the weekend I had the displeasure of popping into the Rite Aid on 7th. I must have been due for a reminder of why I never go there. The shelves were haphazardly half-stocked, with flats and crates and boxes stacked everywhere keeping you from reaching a lot of the shelves, and two people were working the registers with a line all the way to the back of the store. CVS seemslike an oasis of calm in comparison. -

I think it is something to do with that phone. I noticed that the phone now "talks" and says something like "Pharmacy Call" and it is insistent--"Pharmacy Call", "Pharmacy Call" "Pharmacy Call". But even if there is a line of 15 people, they grab that phone. This makes me think there is some rule--pick up the phone on the third ring or else. It is just out of control there now. I would like to complain because they have all my friggin' prescriptions for my entire family (although I don't want them to get in trouble, because I kind of suspect it is a management thing with THAT phone!) -
Hey Albertitto... Try Save on 5th... for those cotton balls... 5th ave on corner of 8th street.. Not a pharmacy but the best prices in the neighborhood on what the other pharmacies sell (and more stuff) and staff is polite, helpful and even greets you when you come in.

The 7th Avenue Rite Aid should be put out of its misery. It's the closest chain pharmacy to Methodist Hospital, though. It's just bad news. Most RiteAids in this part of the country seem the same way. Just pure crap.

Cool! Thanks! I'll definitely give that a try. -
Head to Palma. The guys there are really nice, and saved me in a pinch where there seemed to be no real Sudafed [the kind you sign for] anywhere on 7th Avenue. And I'm usually a Neergaard's regular [both locations].
Yes, stay far, far away from the 7th Avenue RiteAid. They haven't gotten it right from Day One and it shows. -

I've been going to Prospect Gardens for 10+ years and they are very efficient and it while it can be a little odd in there they but friendly enough for the most part. Rite Aid is the cheapest for buying toothpaste or whatever, I used to always go to Duane Reade for stuff but never bother anymore.
-
Health Aid and Parma are both terrific. The guys at Parma could not possibly be more friendly or more focused on pleasing their customers.
-
The only time I went to CVS or any other chain for prescriptions is when no one else will take my insurance. Otherwise, I always go to the smaller stores.
-
Ansonia Chemist on 7th Ave across from Pizza Plus is by far the best pharmacy option in the Slope. They will take care of you. If they don’t have what you need, they will call someone close by to get it for you.

Cause it's old. All the old ones have lots of hits from google searches, probably. -
It's funny, this thread is SUPER old, but that CVS still really sucks a big one. I was in there during the holidays getting some holiday wrapping supplies, and the lady at the counter said:
"UGH. I'LL BE REALLY HAPPY WHEN CHRISTMAS IS EFFIN OVER!!!"
It's like, lady, how do you think that makes me feel buying 40+ dollars worth of products from you?
It was really rude. The cashiers were all chatting and laughing. A checkout that should have taken a minute, took at least 5. Five very very uncomfortable minutes. -
i think it's supremely important to shop at the local stores, but the comments about cvs got me to thinking: why do chain stores suck in brooklyn? cvs.. target.. marshalls.. macys (especially macys), to name a few.. when you go into one of their stores almost anywhere else in the world, you get decent service, stocked shelves.. and they're clean (yeah, i'm talking about you, marshalls). do the chains assume that people in brooklyn just don't care? (i had to flee rite aid the other night because of the horrible exhaust of a floor cleaning machine.) are people in brooklyn slobs, and it's hard to clean-up after them? (i'm pretty sure that's not the case.) has anyone else noticed this?

Agreed. If you want the worse service in the world, go to Rite Aid pharmacy. Most of their locations are bad, but the one on 7th Ave. in Brooklyn is HORRIBLE. They'll screw up your medicine and insult you and make you wait a long time as they do it. Once, a pharmacist even lied to me and told me that a drug that is currently available was no longer being produced. CVS in general is better than Rite Aid.
Head to Neergaard's. -
the way i found health aid, my favorite pharmacy ever, was right after rite aid denied my prescriptions saying the doctor couldn't possibly have written both of them for me at the same time, because they were two variations of the same drug (which was bullshit, and i explained this to them in a very intellectual matter, because i actually know what the f i put into my body...).
so i walked out with the scripts in hand and saw health aid and brought them in; they were filled in 5 minutes. -
I put this CVS on the same level as the Target. Shitty.
