GallopNYC, a therapeutic horseback riding program will be starting at Kensington Stables located at 51 Caton Place, Brooklyn, New York. We are seeking riders who we believe will benefit from this type of therapy. Below is a brief overview of our program.

Staffed by a riding instructor certified by NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association), the goal of Gallop’s program is to provide horse-centered therapies to adults and children facing physical, cognitive, psychological, and educational challenges. Examples of riders Gallop will assist include individuals with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, traumatic head injury, stroke, and other neurological disabilities. Also, individuals who have suffered emotional trauma, such as first responders (NYPD, NYFD, EMS) and war veterans. These individuals can benefit from the horse’s rhythmic gait by developing muscle tone and improving balance. The bond the riders’ form with their horses has been shown to enhance riders’ self-esteem and confidence. For more information, contact Gallop at [email protected] or call 646-413-0469.

  • Can anyone ride horses at Kensington Stables? If so, what are the hours and fees?
  • You can't just rent a horse and go out on your own, but you can go on a trail ride. Their website says it's $30 an hour. They don't seem to have set times; you have to call to make arrangements.
  • If you have kids, you can just pop by and if the ponies are in, ask for a pony ride. I forgot how much--a couple bucks to ride up and down the block a few times.
  • You can book a trail ride-- $30/hr-- or you can take lessons ($40/hr private... not sure what the group rate is). For trail rides, it's best to book a week in advance, especially if you want to go on the weekend. It is by far the cheapest place to ride in the city, and it's a great way to see the park!
