No Lights — Brooklynian

No Lights

I live on Park Place between Underhill and Washington. At about 11:30 last night, most of the lights in my house (but not the appliances) stopped working. Did anyone else experience a similar problem? Con Ed said that they have not received any other compliants but I don't believe them.

  • Speculation, but I'd say that it's related to this.
    [edit] ...and this.
  • I live on the same block, and did not notice a problem, though I got home around 11:30, so if it was a quick thing I may not have been in my apartment. How long did the lights stay off (if they ever went back on)?
  • My lights are still off as well as my boiler and water heater, but my televisions and most of my appliances still work. It sucks but at least I can still watch TV and use my computer.
  • This is my guess:

One of the two feeder cables coming in from the street has crapped out. When you call ConEd they'll tell you (or the landlord) to get an electrician to patch the feeder cables. Submit the (paid) bill to be reembursed.

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago.

It's simple. Your apartment is haunted.
  • Sounds like the beginning of a movie involving aliens. If I see a crop circle in the grass in Prospect Park I'm outta here.
  • ConEd came and fixed it last night. They said it was the result of a manhole fire. (Manhole . . hah)
