Okay, okay we get it...
I'm hoping this is not an isolated incident, but here goes. I've been living here in the Slope for over 3 years so far. Love the neighborhood and the people, even the kids don't bother me much. The only thing that's bugging me is that of late, me neighbors have become my roommates. Leaving multiple notes on the door with reminders to close the door. I also found an anonymous note on my apartment door with an agitated message demanding that I close the downstairs door.
Mind you, I close the door when I leave, but I have also found the door cracked open as late as 1:00 am. Is this going on in other buildings or am I living with the anal-retentive passive-aggressive neighbors from hell?

So who's leaving the door open and why do your neighbors think you're the culprit?
I think it's very reasonable to want the outside door to be closed. -
Are other people getting notes too, or are you being singled out? Maybe you should just post a sign on your own door: "I DO close the door. You've got the wrong tenant."

I think it's OK to want the door closed, but, like the others, I wonder why your neighbors have concluded that it's your fault. So, if you're leaving the door open, remember to close it. If you're not, then write your neighbors back and tell 'em where to go.

There are some doors that re-open due to air bursts or gusts between two doors.
If the writer is a fast-moving person who rushes out the door, he may not realize the door pops open after he leaves. We have doors like that where it's necessary to pause, turn around, pull shut the door after exiting.
We have notes posted at those doors reminding people to do this. -
I live in the same situation. Have lived here for about 9 years. Since all the tenants in the building share responsibility for the entry way, doors, stoop and front sidewalk, we have become used to communicating with each other through notes taped to the mirror and door. But no one has ever singled out anyone else with requests or complaints. It's always been a general request to everyone who lives in the building. Keep in mind that these are rentals, not co-ops. It's been okay. We've all come to know each other because of this. We even do favors for each other like watching the cats for one if they are away. But, I do agree that it would be annoying and insulting if, say, notes were being left on my door, isolating me as the culprit and not as general requests to everyone. Usually it is one apartment that keeps leaving the notes. Do you know who is pointing you out? Can you talk to them?

I've heard of leaving notes on the door itself, but not singling anyone out. Unless they saw you leave, and when they checked to see if it was locked, it wasn't.
I, for one, hate it when people don't lock or close our outside door. It's all fun and games until a homeless person takes a Sh&% in your stairwell.
Which just happened a few days before Christmas. Took the Super until Christmas Eve to clean it up too (over 2 days). You think he got a Christmas Bonus? Me no think so. [-X =; -
That just reminded me of this:

I'm not sure why I was singled out. I make sure the door is closed and locked when I leave. One morning I was on my way to work at like 5 in the morning and this homeless guy was just hanging out, talk about scared straight. My neighbor and I worked out a compromise with our thin wall situation, the things I've heard...wow...I guess she could say the same thing too. LOL.

Boy, you just hit on my pet peeve.
I've left increasingly agitated notes on the door asking people to close it and the notes kept getting removed. I gave up. It's not worth the headache.
Of course, the solution is getting the doors fixed so that they properly shut and latch after opened.
I have turned to my landlord instead, documenting every incident such as the dangerous ice that was in the inner hallway last week (because snow and ice blew in the front doors).
Then there were the large number of cigarette butts that have blown in front of my door from the hallway between the two front doors thanks to one smoker who doesn't want to go all the way outside when it's cold (I don't blame him).
I know who it is, largely rude and inconsiderate hipsters and other young people who live in my building (See the rude children thread).
While I've considered standing outside the door and asking people why they don't close the door, I would never leave a note singling out a specific person! -
If you are not closing the door, you should or a bad person will walk in and kill you all or worse yet, take a dump in your hallway.
If you are closing the door, it's probably best to speak with the people leaving the notes in person and explain to them that you share their concern and do not know who is leaving the door open.
Is it possible that your door is broken? -

Excellent point. If the door is broken, why fight amongst yourselves when you can unite and pressure the one person who can truly fix the problem.
