  • Why do people want to fight this?
  • 12 stories on a 2-3 story block.

Plus a developer who has publicly said F.U. to the Sunset Park community, his neighbors and CB7.

You should no better than this escap.

It's not a "anti-development" issue, contextual and respectful is the key issue. There are others, if you want them, PM me. Nite.
  • escap,

You should no better than this escap.
Actually that was snarky and unfair. Sorry :( You may not know the issues, so it is not fair for me to judge.

PM me or we can discuss "lightly" here.

    Again, good nite.
  • Thanks. Actually, I have literally no idea about anything with regard to this development or that street whatsoever, which was why I purposely just let the question stand for itself. I see my long history pervades my questions, though, and you saw through my innocent guise.... 8-[

Obviously, my biases are well known, but I was committed to maintaining a cordial tone on this one since the issue doesn't affect me at all. So, the gist is that it's a low rise block and the developer wants to build a tower? Luxury condos, I assume? I promise not to rant if you don't mind providing a few more details as to why this development has stirred opposition. I am honestly curious, especially now that you've explicitly stated that it's not an anti-development issue in general.
  • Yes, it's the obvious new dev issues in an established nabe. It was a parking lot for a near by funeral home. It IS adjacent to 2 landmarked buildings (one the Community Board).

Residents are most concerned in reg's to the scale of the project, not the development of the site. Common sense, like a lot of these projects, would deem a 150+ foot building a out-of-scale development for the nabe and all of Sunset Park. Also, views (public, of course) from the park will be mired. And having seen the bogus plans, it's another Fedders POS, no positive architectural addition to a very distinctive brownstone and lime stone area.

The community is very organized, so the developer, though building "as of right" will receive a ton of static...from yours truly and the CB as well.

Yet another example why City Planning needed to look at the CITY as a whole a rezone accordingly. High density where needed and appropriate, low density to preserve certain nabes and more over preserve their community character.

    My 2, wait, 4 cents ;)
  • Well, you and I obviously see the world through different colored lenses, but that's what makes the world go around I guess. I promised not to argue so I won't--those who want to can imagine all of my hypothetical arguments on their own....
  • Too kind....too kind ;)
  • Subject: Great turn out!

Great community turn out! Packed the house at CB7, over 100 folks came out to ask questions f the DOB, CB7 members and attend a presentation of "know your rights!" as it pertains to new development in your area.

Make sure to attend the larger Sunset Park Alliance of Neighbors Community Meeting this Saturday. Info here:
