Anyone have a good experience with Daycare in the slop?
Hi guys
How is everyone!
Im really struggling to find a daycare centre in this area for my 1 year old... I now have just 1 month before I start my new job... so the panic sirens are wailing.. can anyone offer any advice or maybe point me towards or away from centres in the area?

You are looking at family daycare for a child that age. Places like Beansprouts, Huggs, etc. start at age two. I don't have any recommendations but strongly suggest you join the Park Slope Parents Yahoo group and ask the question there -- as annoying as it can be in some ways, that group is the perfect resource for this kind of information.

As Rose is saying, Park Slope Parents is your friend. You should also note that some if not all daycare centers require you to queue up for registration during the better part of a wintery night if you want to have a full time slot.
If your job requires limited travelling, you should also check centers near your office. -
I have to agree with Rose and PSDad Park Slope Parents is the way to go. Also a friend in NJ found a babysitter through this website: http://www.babysitters.com/BabySitterSearch.aspx

Park slopes a lovely area! Will be working very nearby soon and really looking forward to it....

We had a good experience with Florence Kapovich, on 5th Street near 5th Ave. 718 768-1434. I have no idea if she has space, though. It's the ground floor of a townhouse, well-supplied with a good level of supervision for babies and young toddlers. She's been in the business for something like 25 years, I think.

Florence is amazing. Very prominent Slopers send their kids to her. She knows what she is doing.

I had a bad experience with Florence 10 years ago. If you send your child there, I would suggest a suprise visit. I came to pick my child up from her earlier than she expected and I didn't like what I saw.

That's a good idea with any daycare. Stop in once in a while mid-day and check out what's going on. If the daycare has a problem with that, that's a bad sign right there.

I cannot write enough good things about Florence. She is a jewel.
