I think that the only place in Brooklyn where you can find Texas Mulberry trees in on my block. It's pretty awesome because they are not supposed to be able to thrive in NY but they are doing just fine. Has anyone else noticed any interesting trees? Not that all trees aren't interseting, just sayin'.

    If your block is treeless or if you want one in front of your place you can request it from the city. Its a crapshoot to what you'll get but we got a hot one with sexy flowers. If you want more info let me know

    The Property owner has to contact the local community board and put in the request with them, I think for most of us thats district 8.

    The phone number to the local community board, District 8 is 718.467.5574

    The board will probably give you a paper to fill out and return to them so if you are renting it may be easier to convince a lazy owner by getting the paperwork yourself from the board and facilitating the beaurocracy as much as possible


    Dont judge the tree on its bark or flowers though, its whats inside that really matters.

    It's only enter-able by block associations, but all street-front greenery - window boxes, garden patches, trees, and treepits - count. The contest is FREE and there is some neat giveaways - tools, mulch, etc. - and prizes for the winning block. Some of the winners in years past were really AMAZINGLY beautiful.

    PH might be at a disadvantage because many of our blocks are SO LONG - but we entered Eastern Parkway (Underhill to Washington) this year - wish us luck!
