If I had known that Man on Fire and Van Helsing were to be the last films shown at this theatre I would have gone just for old-time sake. What is happening with this theatre? Does the owner actually give a shit about it?

Once the owner of the Pavillion theatre bought it, it went downhill. First he got rid of Brooklyn Bronstonetique which showed independent movies, then he showed mainly shitty films.

I can only hope this local theatre gets up and running soon.

Slow down there, guy.

We reported a few months ago that the theater has been leased by the health club upstairs, and it's going to be turned into a pool (or more like several smaller exercise pools). About a week after we reported it, Daily News picked up the story and ran an article about it.

Yeah, its too bad. I hope they at least keep the awning for historical reasons. IS there any local board that can force them to do something like that?

this is a local board. Could we do that? Daily Heights is already a force for social change, as we saw with the Meat Vent Cleaning Incident at El Castillo de Jagua.

Subject: saving the theatre awning...

well you know in park slope - even tho' i think the issue was really the fact that this quaint open space yet also semi-parking lot with trees and old automobiles was being torn down and a bank was being put there which will change the entire character of the block ... - they got commerce bank on 5th avenue to NOT put a drive through there by applying neighborhood pressure. so why not daily heights.com? I haven't really looked at the awning? is it part of the original detail? too bad we can't push it all the way back and have it remain a theatre... but if not that, save the awning.

I wanted to open a store there... I would have kept the awning. Oh well, that was a bit of a pipe dream anyway...

Same place? American Apparel is a mixed blessing as it brings retail foot traffic to Flatbush (I know there's plenty there already) but what's next? A GAP? At least the Old Navy is contained in Atlantic Center.
