Anyone going to Opening Day Cleanup at the park?

I wandered into the park today and was just thinking, wow, there is a lot of garbage around the park, when I saw that they are having an opening day clean up. Details:

Anyone interested in doing that?

  • Might be nice.
  • Not a bad way to give back at all. I'm actually planning to start volunteering with developmentally disabled people pretty soon. It's something I've needed to do for a while.
  • I thought our taxes went towards paying people to clean up the park? Or have they cut that as well?
  • I happen to see the weirdest thing yesterday. Walking out of the Park @ 11th street & PPW... a young woman carrying a computer printer box with a printer in it and then she proceeds to put it behind a tree and leave it!!! She was using the Park as a trash receptacle!!! WTF???
  • Oiseau I think it's a combination of paid people, regular volunteers and people who just want to pitch in the day of (like me). But I like the community aspect, and I just like making the park nicer if I can. Plus it's an excuse to get outside and meet new people, which is always fun.
  • And, in point of fact, there is a shortage of labor throughout the city's parks to do even basic clean up - let alone jobs of a higher skill level. Prospect Park is lucky - the Alliance does a great job getting funding for its operations.
