Zip Car in Fort Greene — Brooklynian

Zip Car in Fort Greene

Given the nightmare of parking in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, I've been wanting to join Zipcar. Only: There are no Zipcars in the neighborhood. So I'm going to campaign to get some added. Please help out if like-minded:

  • ...I've been considering joining Zipcar too, but I honestly don't consider picking it up in another neighborhood to be any real hardship.
  • Good luck! Even though I don't live in FG, I'll be happy to add myself to the petition - I am a ZipCar user and I've found myself away from home turf and in need of a car in the past, so why not?

I felt that way before, too, but now that I have a ZipCar garage less than two blocks away... ZipCar is (to me) all about convenience - the easier it is for me to use one, the more likely that I will use one. If there is a good amount of interest in FG, it's in ZipCar's best interest to get in a garage or three.
  • Yo dude, what is up with the exclusion of Bed-Stuy residents on the petition? I live in BS, and I currently don't use ZipCars because there are no places nearby to get them. I would most certainly sign a petition to get a ZipCar garage location in FG, or better yet, CH. What gives?

I know, I'm just questioning how much of an inconvenience the current status is, is all.
  • Brilliant idea.

I'm looking for a reason to dump our car and my nightly drive from one side of the street to the other.
  • OP, if you change your petition to allow for non FG and CH'ers, I would love to sign. It's easier for me to get to FG than to the Slope or downtown, and would be a zip customer in FG in a minute. There are lots of us in Bed Stuy and Crown Heights who could join the petition.
  • I agree that you should widen the petition - - I don't necessarily use the zip closest to where I live (e.g, sometimes I use the one near work).
  • I used to support Zipcar for over 2 years. However, I've stopped because I live in Bed-Stuy and have asked and asked for them to put some cars there since it's a real hassle to hop on the bus to go into another area (mainly non-black) just to find a zipcar location.

Zipcar keeps adding cars but mainly in the same areas. They have left out bed-stuy, crown heights, and other areas where many blacks reside. Do they think black people have no need to get around???

Talk is cheap, however action speaks louder than words that's why I have stopped giving Zipcar anymore of my money.
  • miavell google "non urban dictates". sadly this is nothing new. :x
  • ZipCar has cars in the lots near BAM on Ashland, on Pacific and Carlton, Vanderbilt & Myrtle and Waverly btw Park & Myrtle.....

no, my guess is there isn't sufficient demand. it's not like ZipCar doesn't want to make money.
