New Wine Shop — Brooklynian

New Wine Shop

Has anyone tried the new wine store on 5th Ave, in the same block as Eagle Provisions? How's their selection? It looks pretty sparse, but they seem to be doing a good business already.

Maybe I'll check them out for myself this weekend.

  • Not been there, but do post a review after you have been.

Also, AARON'S is gone. 28 new condos going on top of the existing space via the Grandson. Wine bar (in progress) in the building will stay.

    Parking lot...not sure.
  • I just went to the wine shop for the first time a couple of nights ago. It's not bad, I thought, though it's not like I'm a big authority on wine. THey don't have a huge selection, but there seemed to be a little of everything, with a decent range of prices. Hopefully they know what they are doing in selecting what they carry. They do a frequent buyer card-- every time you buy a bottle, they punch it, and once you've bought 12, you get a 13th bottle for 99 cents.
I have been a regular at the liquor store between 14th and 15th for years, but I think I'll be giving this new shop some business too. They stay open until 10pm most nights, which is great.

What?! How big is that going to be. My landlord is building new apts on 18th. 10 units on 6 floors. I have a feeling 28 is a little inflated...

I think the parking lot is staying for now. I know someone who made inquiries into buying it but the aforementioned Aaron's heir refused to sell.
  • wine shop and a wine bar...just what this neighborhood needs. How about a 24-hr. drugstore or a fedex kinko's type-place or a really good restaurant or photo shop??

Ummm, actually, I think the neighborhood does need a wine bar. Who knows when it will open though - they were initially saying last xmas.

The aforementioned wine shop used to be a photo place. The owners closed it & now run the wine place.

    Isn't Neergaard on 10th st & 5th 24 hours? I think they are.

I've been to the wine shop a couple of times already. The selection might disappoint true enophiles, but they seem to be focusing first on having wines in various price ranges rather than building up impressive or trendy vintages. Not to mention it's not a large space in the first place.

The Old Photo Shop Guy is not an authority, so if you are worried about what to serve with your pollock fritters, you may want to take the longer walk up to those two places on Seventh Avenue. That said, I found stuff to suit me and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend it.
