Anyone buy fish here? How is it? As good as Fish Tales or not? I just went in for the first time in years and the store is pretty nice....

Well, I don't know about Fish Tales, but the fish at Sealand is high quality but a little overpriced. We need more fish stores in the area.
  • I've bought shrimp there. No problems, they were fresh and a just little expensive.
  • i buy fish and seafood there pretty regularly. the quality and freshness, i've found, is pretty good for these parts. maybe 'cause they are also doing sushi business. but yes, it's pricey. and, i still use my fish-purchasing 'protocols' when buying (careful appraisal by eye and nose and questioning as to when my potential purchase was delivered and/or defrosted). the mongers have always been very helpful and honest when i ask for guidance. that being said, fish tales is a league above, in all respects.
  • Sealand: fish monger or Korean oxymoron?

Sealand has excellent sushi-grade tuna and tuna belly, but it does come at a price. I have feeling it's just too expensive in this day and age to be a fish monger in the hood. There was a fish monger, Su's, on Bergen and Fifth Ave years ago, but they got priced out. Also as the neighborhood improved they got a lot of complaints about the fish smell. Bummer.
  • The best is Blue Moon at the greenmarket on Saturdays. But it sounds like I'll have to look into Sealand for my off-season and middle-of-the-week seafood needs.

Ditto! Fish Tales second (a little pricy, but not like Union Market & way way better). Thanks all.
