Access a ride blows ass, mta should take over it.
Past month i been working for "access a ride" they are a step child of the mta. they give out contracts to many companies to run the program. but mta makes all the rules.
there are so many problems. from inflexible schedules to low quality of workers. It seems like a training ground for new mta workers. the good ones wait till they have openings at the mta itself.
the system is so inefficient, while i learn during training. when i was on my own. i didn't care about the mta rules.
for example if you have passenger A on board and going to pick up passenger B, but is passing passenger A house. I can't stop to drop off passenger A first. but have to pick up B and than drop off A. sometimes I had to pick up passenger C too and than drop off A.
When i started to work on my own, i didn't obey those rules. I just drop off where they wanted to be drop off and drop off the ones that are closer first. to make things more efficient.
These passengers are adults and know where they want to go, unless its the mentally instable ones. than i drop off where the list says. a lot of these guys are just old or handicap or overweight.
off course the mta ever found out about if i did that with my passengers they'll fire me
. but i quit today.
The reason i started to work for them was, winter time is slow time for moving and i'm sharing my van with my brother. plus i thought might be cool to get my teeth fix while working.
after taxes and union dues for a full week of work at $11hr with 4.25 hrs of over time. i only make $369!!!
no dental plan is worth the headaches of the job.
the mta pays i forget how much for each passenger to be transported. last time i read was about 50 bucks. its cheaper for the mta to just transport everyone via cabs.
the mta should just take over the step child programs of theirs and implement some standards. they'll hire almost anyone to work there. there is no real over sight of the drivers.
for example if the driver gets to place of pickup early, they can report themsleves later and take no lunch and get paid. while already had a lunch break.
there are too many problems to list.

i know mta sucks ass. but trust me access a ride sucks even worse! atleast the customers would be dealing directly with mta not 2 layers of bureaucrats. -
access-a-ride should just be dropped - are there any stats on people hit by these drivers?! so many close calls, so many awful drivers.
*armchair is a wonderful driver, atleast in his van! -
i don't know any stats for hitting folks. and thanks hehe
.
but according to this cost about $55.72 per boarding!!! thats alot of money to ferry people around. alot of the guys i take aren't really disable, when it goes back fast, they demand to be let out to take the subway lol. some of them are just a bit over weight.

who is able to take access-a-ride?
how did you get this job anyway? -
this is what the mta considers, who can ride on it:
AAR provides transportation for people with disabilities who are unable to use public bus or subway service for some or all of their trips. Assessment reports have information often left off the application or missing from a doctor's note. When an applicant has a face-to-face interview with a medical professional and undergoes functional testing (where appropriate), our certifiers get a clearer picture of an applicant's travel ability. This knowledge lets certifiers assign an appropriate eligibility status to applicants: (1) full, (2) conditional, (3) continuing eligibility (4) full temporary (5) conditional temporary or (6) ineligible. (This should reduce time-consuming appeals by customers who disagree with their eligibility status.)
I got the job, cause i know a friend who knows some one there very well. i didnt get a interview lol. i just walked in with my friend. they were like oh okay

My dad was on dialysis and became eligible for access-a-ride to and from the dialysis center three times a week. His doctor urged him to take it rather than drive himself each time. His total round trip by car was 15 minutes, made easier by the fact that his appointment was for 5:30am.
He signed up, had the social worker complete all of the necessary paperwork and after several months was told he was all set. The first day, his ride did not show. The second day he was picked up and dropped off at the center an hour later. The third day, he arrived on time, but the pick up never happened. He took a cab home and the following week, promptly went back to driving himself every day. -
it is horrible service, sorry to hear homeowner. few times dispatchers would drop job, just pass by and if you dont see person outside, just drive away and get a land mark, and tell me to goto next one, this way we will run on time again. if you pass them and see them running after you, you were there and don't need to stop lol.
i always felt horrible when this happens.
i should block my name off this post
. so they can't track me down. -
Access a ride blows ass, mta should take over it.

-
