Bonnie's Grill: Yuuuuuuck!
Subject: Bonnie's Grill: Yuuuuuuck!
Just had one of the most disgusting and objectionable meals of my Park Slope life at Bonnie's Grill. Hubby and I ordered veggie burgers with fries. No complaints about the fries, which were freshly fried, crisp, and delicious with the tabletop mayo. The burgers, however, were another story entirely. Black, burned, and smelling of my grandparent's ashtray. It was foul. We considered sending them back, but were hungry and the beer had kicked in, so we decided to soldier through, hoping the char wouldn't be so bad. As it turns out, that was the wrong choice... about 1/3 of the way through, I tried to scrape the black crust off my burger, which was not terribly successful. Of course, our server took no notice of my pile of black crud or my husband's 1/2 eaten burger.Let's just say, that was out last visit to Bonnie's. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to find something to get the taste of charcoal out of my mouth.

sounds like a cook is getting fired

they always over char those burgers. i dont like to eat all that carbon either. i'm just getting the wings. thanks
-
I definitely go there for wings, but have had other things that have been so-so. I think if you told them you weren't satisfied with the food, they probably would have done something. They seem like reasonable people there. They've been in business for awhile, so they aren't monsters.
Most likely they would appreciate the feedback at the time so they could take action and remedy the situation; now they really don't have a chance--unless they are shadowing the forums and will seek you out to offer a discount on your next meal.

Never heard a cross word about Bonnie's before.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I've never had anything but very good meals at Bonnie's with very nice service. I'm a regular and I can't wait to go back this week.
-
I have to second the idea that you should have said something. Many moons ago I used to wait tables, and it didn't give me the ability to read minds....they could have thought you were on a special diet (like the people who leave the buns, maybe you were not eating the mock meat for some reason), that you weren't hungry any more, etc.
Now, if you said something about it and THEN they gave you crap service or attitude, that's a different story, but I believe you should at least give somebody a chance to rectify a situation. -
No totally agree that we should have said something. I don't blame the server (too much)... it was really busy. THat's the primary reason why we didn't say anything to begin with... would have taken a while to get replacements. No biggie, I just wish there was a good veggie burger place in the Slope. Any suggestions?

While I do enjoy Bonnie's burgers I have to agree. Sometimes it is a bit much. -
hmmm, what are the expectations of a person that goes to a place that grills meat and orders a veggie burger?
seems a little silly, no -
where are they located?

actually, they grill a mean portobello - on the same grill that kisses cow, so you can't be too picky about that - and fry up some deeeelicious catfish burger (in it's own frying pan)
so there is little impairment for the veg or pescaterian.
But I never had the actual "veggie" burg myself . . .
but they tend to cook everything exactly like I ask them to, or beg forgiveness
I LOVE BONNIE'S!
(Duffy'sSis it's on Fifth Ave, same block as the Blue Ribbons) -

Bonnies is great - the problem is what you ordered. You dont order pasta at a diner or pizza at a pub either -
Um, Bonnie's is a diner. A veggie burger is a pretty standard order, especially considering its one of four burger options on the menu. Plus, if you can't cook a veggie burger, you're doing something wrong... it ain't rocket science.
-
I'll also admit that this is the third time we've been to Bonnie's. First veggie burger was excellent. The second was charred, just like the latest visit. We gave it a second chance, but 2 blackened burgers in a row kinda turns me off the place.

And, if it's on the menu, they should know how to cook it!
I would also love to know where to get a good veggie burger in Park Slope. -
mummmmmm Bonnies.........
I'll need to investigate this fully. It will require that I go tonight and order a burger, medium rare, 2 beers and some wings. Purely for research purposes of course.
Sheesh, the things I do in the name of science. -

And if she keeps this up (for the sake of research, of course), you'll be able to see her from a mile an' and quarter away.

I see how it is!
For yo information, I devoured that burger (no wings, this time) and fries. The fries were perfect, the best I've had in while. Golden and also with a good crisp bite with salty goodness. The burger was huuuuuuuge!! And juicy! Whooh! Damn, I need a nap now. did I mention the array of hot sauces. I tried the hot mustard, the XXX hot sauce and the habanero. So sleepies..... ZZZzzzzzzzzzzz ZZZzzzzzzzz -
You are making me HONGRY!
-
May I assume there was a nice, thick crust of char as well?
-
You may not.

Hey, this is my post, buddy.
