Boycot SODA BAR until they bring back the POOL

I have been going to Soda since they opened nearly three years ago and know Toly personally. I think is ridiculous to boycot them because they no longer have a pool table. Their food is great, the bartenders are friendly and it is affordable. Plus, I give Toly lots of credit - he opened a place that truly represents our community- everyone is welcome. Instead of complaining about what our local businesses don't do or do wrong, we should support them so may be they are able to survive when the stadium is built.
As for Mr. Smith - the beauty of the USA is that you don't have to be an English major to have a very succesful business - which is something Toly clearly has. -
Like it not, pool tables tend to be jerk magnets. 'Toli has the right idea about the table.
-
I agree with Zeli. While a pool table would be nice, it's not worth making the place unsafe. Soda Bar is a great bar, and Brownstone Billiards is a short walk away. Besides, how can you boycott a place that has kascha and bacon pierogies?
-
Zeli - AmyG:
I think my tongue in cheek comment may have been taken the wrong way - I was being sarcastic/irreverant. (if you're going to boycott the bar for something trivial..yaddayadda)
I have never met the owner(s) of Soda - I was merely reacting to the posting which, although I understood the jist of, I thought could have been proofread or spellchecked a little better (in order to convey their point)
I have nothing against immigration, the American Dream, or people who do not hold bachelors degrees in the English language.... -
mr smith digs. Hole gets deeper. Film at 11.

how come sometimes the martinis at soda are $7 and sometimes $8? do they change their prices on certain days?
-
Subject: Martinis
Martinis vary in price depending on the liquor you choose. Sometimes they are $6, $7, $8 or $9. Choose your liquor wisely. -
i think they took out the pool table because that was where alot of coke was changing hands...

That's funny! I went there with a friend once and he was really tired. Some skinny little NYU student looking guy approached him and said "You blow?" and we were like what the fuck? Is this 1985? I thought it was just an anomoly. -

nope, quite a standard interaction there, as far as i can tell. though maybe its phased out some now. ever wonder why the pool players were often very aggro? lol! -
1. Toly's response is perfectly valid even if his command of English is not up to any particular person's standards and it is beyond me why someone would even suggest "boycotting" a place due to the proprietor's command of language.
2. I am not a "bar" person and all I know from pool tables is "bumper pool" (I think amyg might know a little about this) ... but, Soda Bar has a great veggie burger and, as I discovered last weekend, a really great thin crust pizza.
3. I think the people who work there are really nice.

Does anyone know if Soda has a softball team? How would I get in on it? Is getting druink there once a week enough to get on the team? I just read the thing about Freddys beating O'Conners which is great. So when is Soda going to beat Freddy's?
I even have a shirt already. -

I moved here 6 months ago. Why don't you tell me something about the neighborhood? -
Aw, man, don't feed the troll!

I used to shoot pool there. When I asked the bartender why it was gone, they said people playing kept getting into fights, and they wanted the room for seating.

yes people kept getting into fights, for some reason poll drives people to do stupid things, i am glad that the pool is gone now, is much more calm now..And appollonia, you are the troll!! -
You are the ones who are the ball lickers!
Sorry I got caught up in all the message board hate and had to quote Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
That said, is Franny's still there or is it gone? I'm not much one for fancy pizza (give me antonio's if possible), but I was told Franny's was pretty good and I did intend to try it. Everyone's talking about it in the past tense, though.
Same deal with Muddy Waters in another post- I got coffee there last week, is it closed all of a sudden? I don't love or hate the place, but I like that it's there for sure.
Also, what's up with all the hatred? -
whoa, I posted that in the wrong thread, my bad.

Subject: understaffed at times too!
well if the owner is reading, i really think that the waitress is often overworked at the tables. i got annoyed with her one day because she never came to take our order and then said she'd come and didn't. she then had attitude about it. we had to place an order at the bar. the bartender came to her defense and said "she's the only cocktail waitress." I then realized, despite my believing she still could have handled it all better, that the place is (or at least has been the 2x i 've been there) understaffed!
i don't' have an opinion on the pool table although i understand why it would be nice! -

Yes, I really like Soda but it is DEFINITELY understaffed. We've had major problems with the service every time we've gone (even though the waitress was very nice).

soda is a big place, specially in the summer when the back is open..So what are you saying is that the owner shoul put as many people as he can so that your beer gets there in 2 minutes??So if he does that, the people that get there would and could not make a decent amount of money, they might as well work at Mickey d -

I think people are more interested in getting a beer in under 20 minutes. I like Soda, but that is definitely their weak point.

Oooh, what's next? Are you gonna tell me you're rubber and I'm glue?
Seriously, though, it's been nice to see you engaging a little more meaningfully and civilly in some of the threads after the way you behaved your first day or so here. This exchange excepted, of course. -

I'm boycotting SODA too, but for a different reason. The first and only time I went there, I got violently ill from their onion rings. Does anyone know if they've changed the oil in the fryers?
Oh, and the German beer my fiancee got was flat.
What a shame. It seems like a cool place. -
