Subject: St. John's Place & Howard Avenue

Hello,

I am new to the site, does your forum include St.John's Place & Howard Avenue.

I lived there as a young boy between 1945 thru 1950 and am interested in any history or old photo's.

If anyone knows any other site's that would help me, please let me know.

I am 64 years old & live out of State. I lived in the 1700 street numbers of St. Johns Place just off Howard Avenue.

Wow, what was the area like in 1945? Did you attend any of the neighborhood schools?

I believe the answer to your question is "sort of". Crown Heights is generally understood to end at Ralph Avenue, which would put you one block into Brownsville. Although I've heard people claim the border is Eastern Parkway after it's bend to the north.

Welcome, Paul! The Brooklyn Library's collection of archives of the Brooklyn Eagle is a great place to look for old news clippings about the neighborhood:

Paul, if you have the address of your home, you can order archive pictures of it from the City. I believe that all of the archive photos were shot in the 40's and 50's. Go to the NYC.gov webpage and search for photos of houses and you should be able to find the service. I think its something like $35 for each photo.
