PH cat whisperer

Sarahb's cat story sounds like Stewie from Family Guy.
I have had animals all of my life and was a professional horseback rider and trainer for many, many years and it all boils down to this....
you have to learn to read your animals. All animals (people included.)
Watch their faces, eyes, ears and body movements. They'll tell you what the animal is thinking and contemplating doing. They don't just act without any indication. There's always some "look" they get on their face before they do something that may not be what is acceptable. The last horse I owned, many years ago, was a young thoroghbred who's barn name was Bentley Bratface. You can imagine what he was like.He was always getting into trouble where ever he was. And one of the things he did was to bite. Now getting bitten by a horse really gets your attention and is certainly something you want to retrain. One day, he grabbed my windbreaker and my skin at the same time, and I had had it at that point. I noticed that he would make a certain face beforehand so I watched him carefully (without being obvious to him) and when he made the face, what I did was to actually take his nostril and bite it as hard as I could while snapping my fingers. Yes, it was an extreme move. It totally freaked him out and he couldn't believe anyone would do that back to him. Afterwards, whenever I worked around him and he made that face, all I had to do was to snap my fingers and he would immediately put his head straight forward and up as if to say " don't bite me again" and the behavior stopped completely.
Cesar Milan has it right (the dog whisperer). You have to be in charge, but never abusive. Don't hit. But make your presence known.
And cats can be changed. One method I've used with both cats and dogs is a spray bottle. When your animal is engaging in unacceptable behavior, squirt it with a stream of water and correct it with your voice with a stern "NO". You'll see a difference in a short while.
The cat whisperer???? Sounds like a heck of a scam and to put a dog down because someone said it couldn't integrate with the new animals without even trying, is just plain wrong. You take an animal on as a pet, it should be cared for until the day it dies and not put down or thrown away because you don't want to be bothered.
